How to Write an Essay

Some good notes about Essay writing.

What do I want to put in the text – start and end

Argue for and against an issue.

Debate an issue. Move back and forward in the debate like this: personally I think so and so …but, on the other hand…..

Start from the start of the story then move forward in time.

A good heading is very important.

Introduction

  • what about, introduce the subject.

  • make the reader interested and curious.

  • maybe include a question?

  • no arguments in the introduction, save that for the rest of the text.

  • should be one paragraph.

Main part

  • present your arguments in different sentences.

  • structure your arguments wisely, very often the best and big arguments are in the start and then the less important arguments come later in the main part.

  • link your arguments together by using LINKING WORDS. Its smart to use words like: However, but, on the other hand…and so on.

  • create a continuity in the text.

  • 1. Convince the reader.

  • 2. Explain the different views/debate. For example: The EU thinks that and…….the others think that.

  • 3. Show the different stages in a development or history of something.

Conclusion

  • sum up…. for example: Based on what i written… I think that…

  • sometimes include your own opinion.

  • conclude!

  • before you write the conclusion, you should go back to the introduction and see what the question or problem was.

  • you should refer to your sources at the end.
