How to Write an Essay

A quick and easy essay writing technique.

In this day and age one of the most requested tasks by teachers and professors is for an essay. They can be time consuming and very boring. Here I will tell you a quick way of writing a short essay using the five paragraph method. This method will often take from 2 to 5 pages!

First off you want to begin your “introductory paragraph”. In this paragraph you will give a short rundown of what you will be writing about. This should usually be a paragraph of five to ten sentences. It is the shortest paragraph in the essay, but it can also be the most important. A good introductory paragraph will bring the reader into the subjuct without being boring or over done. Also you should end any introductory paragraph with a “thesis statement” this is a sentence givin the shortest possible rundown of the 3 body paragraphs.

After you have your introductory paragraph it is time to assemble you body paragraphs. All three of these paragraphs use the same format. Your first sentence states the subject of the paragraph. Then subsequent sentences should go in the pattern of “concrete detail-commentary-commentary” (here on out known as “CDCC”). A concrete detail sentence is a sentence stating a fact that relates to the subject of the paragraph and should be concise and not contain any opinion. Then the commentary sentences should be two sentences explaining your position on the fact in conjunction with the subject of the paragraph. Then the final sentence is a quick wrap up of the paragraph. Your body paragraphs should be from ten to fifteen sentences each!

Finally there is your ending paragraph. This is by far the easiest paragraph if you actually paid attention while writing your own essay. This is a short paragraph making commentary on the outcomes of each of the paragraphs and how they relate to each other and the last sentence of this paragraph should be something smart, witty, or to the point.
