How to Write an Article Quicker Than You Have Ever Written One Before

Below is a simple formula for quick article writing that I recently discovered by accident one day when answering a post in an online forum.

Have you ever written a long response to someone in a forum thread? Did you notice how quickly and effortlessly you were able to write that response and hit the submit button. I bet you were even quite pleased with what you wrote and felt that your response hardly needed any editing. You might have even written something as long as an article….can you see where I am going with this line of questioning?

Ok let me tell you why I am asking these questions.

A couple of hours ago I submitted a post to a social networking forum and after finishing the post I realised that I had written quite a lot. On further inspection it occurred to me that I had written as much as I might have written in a small online article and the quality of the post was pretty good.

The difference though between writing this post and an article is that the forum post took me about 10 minutes to write whereas an article of similar length might have taken me hours or even days to produce. Why?

Well I believe the reason for this huge difference in time is that when writing a post in a forum I am relaxed, I am not caring as much how the words come out, I don’t edit as much and in short I am not that bothered about perfecting a forum post. On the other hand when writing an article, my audience are always at the forefront of my mind. I have convinced myself that I am writing for a more discerning group of people when writing an article and therefore I have to take more care to make sure my words flow just right.

But the irony is that even though I am being more careful when writing an article it never flows as well as when I am writing a forum post.

This phenomenon was so striking to me that I decided to test my theory and to try to write this article as though I am writing a forum post. While writing this article I kept repeating to myself, “I’m writing a forum post, I’m writing a forum post” and guess what?….it’s working…. I can feel my words flowing better and I am writing quicker than I would have if I had an article writing mindset. I bet once I’ve finished I will have to do less editing as well.

In conclusion I believe one of the best ways to write an article quickly, especially if you usually take ages to finish one is to try to write it as though you were just responding to someone’s comment in a forum thread. Try it the next time you write an article and see for yourself, I do believe you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly, effortlessly and enjoyably your words just seem to flow onto the page.

Incidentally this article took me 10 minutes to write and five minutes to edit.

Interesting piece I definately need to relax more when writing. Thinking about it too much on first draft can be harmful thats what revisions are for.

Funnily enough I know just what you mean. Sometimes if I am writing a long reply to someone and am pleased with how it is flowing I copy it into Word, tweak it and turn it into an article :- )Our friends are often the best cause of our inspiration :-)

tThis advice is right on the money. This is one of the fastest ways to produce an article. You can always edit later but editing, as you go, curbs creativity and production.
