How to Write a Poem

For those who take life easy.

There are many people who express how difficult poetry is to both interpret and write. I would love to help those of you who would agree on it’s difficulty, see poetry in a new way. There are a few truths about poetry I have discovered.

  • poetry is a form of art and like any art there is no right or wrong way to interpret or write poetry
  • poetry is personal and reaches a wide span of topics (meaning you can write a poem about anything you desire)
  • poetry is and awareness shared and intented to invoke and emotional feeling be it happiness, sorrow,a slight discomfort ect
  • poetry is timeless
  • when writing a poem you cannot do it wrong!

I have heard it expressed that poetry is not a frail old woman, it is stronger than you think! This is because poetry touches a creative area of our brain and can even bring some readers to laughter. This is the purpose of a poem. These words written down magically take the readers hand and reveal to them what is beyond words.

I value the art of poetry because there are no rules if you desire  no rules. On the other hand if you desire to follow a strict ruling of writing a poem or interpreting it you can also do this! Remember to look upon creating a poem or interpreting a poem just as you would a painting. Poetry is an art and an open window to emotion.

Writing a poem is only hard if you want it to be hard. How you write a poem and what you will speak about is all up to you! I leave this with you for your own interpretation.

Swallowed is the empty soul
Where prisons oft are found
Hallowed is the heart that sings
Oh priceless is thy bound.

~~I thought I needed two left feet
to ever make it back
I sighed and laughed towards the wind
that blew me right on track
