How to Write a Fantasy Novel

The most basic needs and how-to’s for aspiring Fantasy writers.

As with most forms of writing, fantasy authors will need a great deal of imagination and creativity. Fanthors (Fantasy Authors) must allow their imagination to be free so that they may come up with a story line, characters, and, of course, a place to publish it. The basic outline of the ‘need to’s’can be found below.

  1. Think of a story line. If it is not one that you would read about than it is not one that you should write about.
  2. Come up with characters. Would you like to base the people in your book on people in real life, or would you like to come up with complete originals?
  3. Write. This is where you, as the writer, is truly tested. Can you make your story work for you? Can you bring your characters to life? Do you have the patience to strive to the end? Can you write?
  4. Edit. It may break your heart, but some scenes are not relevant to the plot of the book. They will have to be cut. It helps to have a few friends read through your work and give you their opinion on it.
  5. Publish. The most exciting and the most terrifying time: Will anyone read what you have written? Will the publisher you have chosen accept your work in the first place? Will it be the next bestseller or the next big flop?

But no matter what happens,if writing is something that you enjoy doing, then don’t hold it inside. Set it free-you can only get better.
