How to Steal Five Minutes in a Day to Write

Many people complain that we do not have enough time for this and that. As a writer, I often feel that I do not have enough time to write my articles and reviews. There were days when I go without writing a single post for my blog. Sometimes I feel that I have very little control over the time I have. I need to take care of my daughter, handle the household chores, run errands and all sorts of things, other than write!

But the truth is we are in control of the time we have. There are ways to find time to write, even if it was for 5 minutes in a day. The trick is to have a notebook and pen handy all the time, so that when there is a window of opportunity, you will be prepared to make full use of it. Here are some moments in a typical day where you can steal 5 minutes to write.

1) In the Queue

You may be queueing up to pay for your groceries, pay bills at the automated machine, withdraw money from the ATM, waiting for your turn at the banks, etc. There are many opportunities for us to turn that waiting time into more productive moments.

2) Transportation

While waiting for the bus or train to arrive, you will spend some time doing absolutely nothing. Why not make use of the time to write? You can also do some writing when you are travelling in the bus or train. It is especially frustrating if you are caught in a traffic jam without nothing much to do but wait. But not you, getting stuck in traffic allows you to jot down some important points for your next article.

3) TV Commercials

Instead of channel-surfing during commercials, pick up that pen and think of a catchy title for the article you are currently writing. I’m sure with all the catchy ads on TV, you will get some very good ideas.

4) Computers

What do you do while waiting for your computer to load up once you switched it on? Many people do nothing. Don’t wait. Write a short introduction for your next article. Those five minutes waiting for the computer to load is better spent for your writing. Same goes when the internet connection is slow and each page is crawling to load up. Always have another program open for your writing. You can definitely complete a couple of sentences or even a paragraph.

5) Sleep

Have you ever felt an idea pops into your head just when you’re about to fall asleep? These are precious moments you need to preserve. Many of us feel lazy to get up and jot down those points, thinking that you will remember them the next day. Guess what, you can’t remember that brilliant idea you had the night before, just before you fell asleep. Why not use five minutes before bedtime to brainstorm for ideas for your next few articles?

There are many moments in a typical day when we are waiting and waiting, with nothing much to do. If we do take a few minutes to analyze when we can steal these moments, it will incredibly increase your productivity when it comes to writing. By stealing a few five-minute slots in a day, you can even complete an entire article. So don’t waste time! Write that article today!

I actually experienced that when I tried to sleep but just can’t because of so many things juggling over my head like the preparations I have to take care about because my daughter’s bday is at near, all the people I need to contact for the invitation down to the chairs and balloons. Instead of forcing them to get out of my head and try to fall asleep, I got out of my bed and started jotting down all of them in a notebook after which I tried to get back to sleep and I did!!!
