All about technical reports.
A report may consists of several components, below are given some ingredients of a report other than the main text.
The face of a report is its title page. It consists of the main title of the report, name of the author of the report, name of the person or the organization to which the report is to be submitted. It may include the logo of the educational institution or the organization on which behalf report is to be submitted.
If you are student and submitting a report of your lab work or course work, then next page is the bonafide certificate. This includes a statement that you are student of the institution alongwith the signatures of the head of the institution, your course professor and lab instructor.
In case, you are assigned a project by some organization. This part consists of letter of authority; this contains the statement that you are the person that is assigned this project.
This page includes the name of personalities to whom you are dedicating your work. These personalities may be your teachers, parents, children etc.
This portion consists of startup summary of the report work. In this page you provide the brief summary of the report. What this report is all about and what will be concluded at the end.
Basically a thanks giving page to all the persons that helped you out to work on your report. You can acknowledge your teachers; people gave you technical assistant, permission to work etc.
Include the division of the report into chapters with the reference of page numbers. Before this table, there may be addition of two lists depending on the type of report. First list is the list of figures; enlist the figure numbers, title of the figure with the page number containing the figure. Second list is the list tables which consist of table numbers, title of the table and the page number where the table is present.
After this actual text of the report comes, which is logically, technically divided into a number of chapters. Chapters may be divided into many fields like; introduction, history, architectural structure, technical considerations, hardware description, simulation works, applications etc. After this work, there are some concluding sections, given below.
About what you have achieved in your work. Brief summary of the results attained in your detailed discussion during your work.
This is an optional section. It contains extra information on some important topics and terms that were used in the main report but not explained that time. Hence are explained in this section for more clarification.
Contains abbreviations used in the report.
This section enlists the resources from where you obtained your data. References may be books name with the page numbers from where you included data in your work; these may be articles, web pages links, and magazines with the issuing date.
