Writing articles is an art by itself. You can write several articles in a week or you may write just a couple of articles per week. Ultimately what wins the race is quality. If you are going to write in English, it is important to write without grammatical errors creeping in. This is particularly difficult for people who hail from a non English speaking country. If you use Microsoft Office 2007 version or a higher version, the mistakes in spelling, grammar or punctuation will be highlighted by the underlining of the specific portions which contain the errors, as you type. Everybody has some expertise and everyone likes something. When you set out to write articles, it is important for others to know that you are some sort of specialist in some field. When you are authoritative, people will be eager to read more articles from you. This does not mean that you should not deviate from a chosen field. You can write articles on any subject as long as you are comfortable with it. I myself, usually write on health matters because that is my field. But, occasionally I venture into wildlife because I am interested in it and have learnt a lot by watching channels like the animal planet.

The length of the articles

How lengthy should an article be? I personally feel that ideally, an article should contain between 300 and 600 words. Too short an article will have no impact and too lengthy an article will put people away. Hence it is important to develop the art of elaboration as well as editing. An article which contains about 200 words can easily be stretched to an article of 300 words. The trick here is not to increase the length of the sentences, but to increase the content. Therefore before starting on an article, it is better to carry out some research on the topic you are dealing with it. The internet is useful for this purpose. Likewise, while editing an article to reduce the number of words, it is essential to ensure that the gist of the article is not affected. Hence one should not randomly remove sentences.

There are so many article submission sites available online and most of them are free. Most of them also allow you to profile yourself at the end of the article where you can give publicity regarding your websites. This will increase the number of visitors to your site. Thus more the number of articles published at different sites, the more will be the exposure for you. For writing articles to different sites, it is necessary to suitably modify your articles, every time you choose a new site. This is called article spinning. You can submit the same article by modifying an article by incorporating additional points. This is where research helps. But, it is important to keep track of what article is being posted and where you are posting the articles. To establish a reputation as a writer takes time and requires patience.
