Writing as a hobby or for the big cheque read on to know more.
Writing for money or pleasure you still want to become a better writer
You should pay attention to your punctuation, the right ways of using commas, and periods, the two punctuation marks go with the flow of your thoughts, if your words are clear the text can be confusing if the punctuation marks are not used correctly.
Focus on a challenge that allows you to write thousands of words , like a novel each month, you will notice a change in your writing when attempting to write that many words .
Don’t edit when your first draft is created, these are two separate processes, you use different sides of your brain to do this, if you try attempting both at the same time, you won’t win on this one.
If your monitor is switched off when typing then you won’t edit what is not seen.
Write everyday for a period of thirty minutes, you will notice the difference in the short time, ideas come to you, and other thoughts come to mind, experiment with styles, voices, and words. Allowing you to be familiar with the language.
You should first try learn the rules of good writing, afterwards learn how and when to break them.
Another way of becoming a good writer, write ten pages about a favourite writer, this will encourage you to write in your style.
The number one rule is to first be a good reader
You can’t rely on spell-checking programs, it may serve as a good tool, but often you will find mistakes once your article is published. Always read and review what you have written, never mind of the length of the article, the more time spent on correcting your work the better for your writing experience.
Be able ot take criticism, seek this out on every opportunity, don’t be upset by the harsh comments
You can right click on a word to use the thesaurus, do this again on the new word, and make the best out of your vocabulary.
Read your text aloud afer editing and checking for spelling errors, you will find what you had passed through
There shouldn’t be any unnecessary words in your article, just like a drawing shouldn’t have unnecessary lines. Avoid wordiness.
Write like you have a deadline, and a worthy article of five hundred words.
Don’t use too many adjectives
Express your work in simple ways, and avoid writing too long sentences.

Good advice. My biggest tip for growing as a writer is to practice, practice, and practice, and when you aren’t doing that, read your own writings, and reflect on how you can improve.

Good and very helpful article. I know a few teachers who teach English Comp 101 who would benefit from this. Their own English is horrific at best. Like this article.
