If the BBC really had the aim you graciously infer to, they should not subject illiterate people to write at all but should allow submittal by oral means, as most pupils leave British schools as analphabets anyhow. It may surprise you to learn that many of these may come from people who have not had the benefit of a first-class education. However, they should not be deterred from submitting their fascinating stories because of this. I think you have misinterpreted the purpose of the My Story campaign. It is not a writing competition; it’s a search to find remarkable real-life stories.
