A Writing Trip: Go to Five Different Place and Write About Five Different Things

You are writing a story and and all of a sudden to can’t find what to write about and have no ideas, without realizing it you are surrounded by ideas all around you.

Have you ever just gone out to look for inspiration for your writng.  I just like to go out when I find myself sitting there and not knowing what to write to replenish myself and build up my idea file.

Here are my top tips for doing this.

I find 5 different places to go and visit and in each of these different places and find five different things to write about.

Here is an example of what I did at one of my locations

  • Went down the road to my local library and making sure I didn’t forget my notebook.  When I arrived at the library I sat down with my notebook and started to look around.
  • Once I was comfortable and had took in all of my surroundings.  I listed five things in my notebook of what I could see.
  1. computer
  2. condensation on the window
  3. table that wobbles
  4. books are swivelling stand
  5. card catalogue
  • Once this was done I started to write a paragraph of each separate item that I had seen.  I just let all the words flow out.

I will try to visit all of the 5 places in one day so that I have as much ideas in my notebook as possible and also I collect leaflets, magazines etc. along the way for more ideas.
