A list of the resources the freelance writer can find online–no matter where you are in your career.
Thank you all who have written me here and here to say that you like my articles providing lists of Internet resources for the freelance writer. Below you will find, as you have requested, yet another list of resources. It’s a bit of a mish-mash since I tried to guess at what you might be looking for. And, since most of my readers tend to be Triond members, I thought Triond-like sites might be of interest to you. I have also included a list of magazines and e-zines that accept unsolicited material.
Internet Sites that Solicit Articles and Share Advertising Revenue (like Triond)
In addition to these Triond-like resources, I would again like to direct you to several magazines that you in whole or in part online and that accept unsolicited submissions. Please note that it is very important to read the magazine, to get a feel for what they want, before submitting an article. Where the Submission Guidelines were a bit hard to find, I listed them separately from the magazine. In fact, on occasion because it was easy to get to the magazine from the Submission Guidelines page but not the other way around, I only listed the Submission Guidelines page.
Magazines That Solicit and Pay for Articles
Asimov describes itself as a science fiction magazine that “launches you into the fantastic worlds of tomorrow.”
Raven Chronicles emphasizes work which reflects the cultural diversity of the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and other areas of America. They will read other work but that is their first priority.
Espresso Fiction is looking for entertaining short fiction. They explain that their readers love fiction but are usually too busy to read a full novel. This, then, may be a good opportunity for those of you who like to write fiction.
Over My Dead Body:
Over My Dead Body is, as the title suggest, a magazine of mystery and crime fiction stories. They accept fiction, non-fiction, and photographs in that genre.
Gowanus describes itself as “an international online journal of ideas and observation.” Most of their articles seem to be about the experiences of a Westerner who is plunged into a non-Western culture.
Non-Paying E-zines
At The Fence
The magazine is here
Submission guidelines are here
At The Fence tries to apply the lessons of the Bible to modern life. Pretty much everything comes up: abusive relationships, premarital sex; in-law problems to name but a few.
Moon Dance
The magazine itself is here
Submission guidelines are here
Moon dance is “intended to represent the diversity and unique talents of all creative women.” The theme for 2008 is spiritual growth.
The Internet has many resources for freelance writers at all stages in their writing careers. I hope that, no matter where you are in your writing career, you will find the above resources helpful.
