Writing Internet Articles: Rinse, Recycle, Repeat . . . Sans Hammy The Hamster

A neat trick for writing Internet articles.

Internet articles can be easily crafted using what I call the “rinse, recycle, repeat” method. What the heck is that?

When you sit down to write an Internet article, keep this formula in mind: rinse, recycle, repeat.

Writing Internet Articles

Rinse

Tell them what you are going to tell them. This begins right out of the starting gate, with your title. Make it descriptive: “Identity Theft Scams.” Now, people who want to learn about identity theft expect that you are going to tell them about it. If you are a good writer, you do. This is not the time to engage in “hamster-running-on-the-wheel-type writing.” You know what I mean. We’ve all come across Internet articles that contain excess verbiage and never seem to lead in any concrete direction. The reader is left scratching his head or just presses that little red X up in the corner to make the bad article go away.

Recycle

The body of your Internet article is where you tell people what you said you would tell them. You discuss identity theft: what it is, how it happens, how people can protect themselves, etc. In other words, you include pertinent information to round out your article. (If you are tempted to release your own particular “hamster,” kill the beast!)

Repeat

In your conclusion, you repeat what you’ve just discussed, summing up your article topic, so that the reader comes away satisfied that you’ve delivered what you promised at the get-go. A satisfactory conclusion should leave your reader feeling that the “i”s have been dotted and the “t”s have been crossed.

If you stick to this Internet article formula, your reader won’t feel that he was assaulted by Hammy the Hamster on a caffeine high when he tried to read through your Internet article.

Writing Internet articles is a straight-forward process. Show consideration for time-strapped readers by making your point and sticking to it.
