All over the world, people are working hard to produce their own Internet sites. These people have many different motivations, from self promotion, to making an income, to spreading a philosophy or information. One thing is certain though, without the help of others, their pages are never going anywhere.
Many writers are hard pressed to find the time to read and comment on other peoples Internet pages but this is an extremely important part of networking. I myself know first hand how demanding this can be, I work full time and have a hobby farm that demands most of my time when I am home. Particularly when there are young ones that need extra care. Add that to slow dial up Internet, and viewing other writers pages can be a time consuming effort. None the less it is one that is extremely valuable to find time for.
A person can go beyond a simple glance at an other writers work. Leaving a comment is a great way of saying “I was here”. Leaving a comment that shows you actually read the work is even better. Most sites allow you to vote that you enjoyed the link, doing so costs you nothing, so why not do that too?
Further more, if a person really likes another writers article, why not promote it? If somebody wrote something that holds some information or entertainment value that you enjoyed, why not share it with others? Again, this costs you nothing, and it’s up to you if you want to let the person know you are doing it or not.

I can easily add any article I am reading to Twitter, and the writer will never know. I can give it a thumbs up on StumbleUpon or even e-mail it to a friend. People who use Digg, can promote on that site or use any number of other ways to share a link. Blog it, make it del.ici.ous, or whatever. The point is to help each other out.
Ideally we shouldn’t expect the same in return, but it is hard not to. If I hold your hand, I want you to hold mine back, not let it hang like a dead fish. If I get told to read a link by somebody who has never read any of mine, I feel they are grabbing my hand and ripping it off. A community of friends is one that holds each others hand firmly but not too tight, and helps each other out.
So let let us begin by sharing one of our own articles we are particularly proud of, and by adding one of a friend of ours that we have enjoyed. Ideally you could take the time to read one of the other articles added already too. Thus we hold each others hand and hopefully will get ours held too.
Here is a link I wrote about accepted cruelty in the pet industry. As somebody who has worked with animals and loves them, I see so many things that I cannot believe people tolerate because they are ignorant that some of these things are cruel. For example, most people are unaware that their purchase of a cute pup from a pet store is not rescue, but is, in fact, supporting cruelty. Here is my link.

Here is a friends (Eddiego65) link. He writes about notable Archaeological Forgeries. I often wish I had gone into Archeology,or Paleontology, myself, so really thought this was interesting.

Please post ONLY 2 links (one for yourself, one for a friend) in your comment, and limit yourself to one comment per day.

This is so true. And, what I like about THIS site, is that it really DOES emphasize this point. To be successful, we need people to take and accept what we offer. GREAT read!

You’re absolutely right. The Comments and Likes help raise the visibility / exposure of the writer. The comments can also help encourage, provide constructive criticism, and gently correct, especially new writers or writer wannabes (like myself). I tend to offer correction in person messages rather than comments, but that’s just a preference thing.
OK, so a new writer who I’ve been enjoying is Tate Morgan, and one of Tate’s recent works is here: http://www.authspot.com/Poetry/Your-Light.517001

I agree, It’s so much better since we can click on the persons link that comments on our work. It saves time and helps us get back to everyone. It is time consuming but I try not to miss anyone.

I have the Firefox toolbar installed at home, and have learned how to use my dashboard to check for new writing by people on my friend list. I may not comment on everything if I am taking a quick break at work, but I try to at least thumbs up the ones I like.
