How I hunted for something to write about and found a breed of dog that is on the hot topics list.
I joined Triond on the 2nd of May and published my first piece on the 4th. Ever since I’ve been writing about stuff that interested me. And adding some old stories that I had written ages ago. Some poems that I had collected and some sample articles to get another freelancing job. Now suddenly I found myelf at a loss for words. Within two weeks I had writer’s block…not a great way to continue on triond is it?
Recently Triond has added a cool feature. They give a list of phrases and words that are popular on the net at the current moment. In fact I did my last post after I got inspired by reading that the movie My big fat Greek wedding was being talked about as hot stuff. I had loved the movie and was always inspired by how great a large family can be. So the post kind of flowed from there.
Today I had no clue what I should write about and decided to take a look at the “what’s hot” list. There was a lot of stuff out there, much of which I knew little or nothing about. The one word that did catch my attention was Dachshund. Wasn’t that a breed of dog? I thought to myself, how did that get on the hot list?

What I remember of the breed is that it looks like a sausage and the name come from the German words “Das Hund” which literally translates in English to “the dog!” The breed is amongst the smaller ones. It has the long haired variety and the short haired one. Though I am a dog lover and enjoyed my pets some how I could never quite like the dachshund.

Some how the shape and the colours never appealed to me. I was more of a spaniel and a labrador person. The occassional Pom would also do. If I were to choose a pet these days, it would be the goldfish. Least maintainence and fun to watch. As of now i am trying not to get any pets as one baby to care for is more than enough. I’m waiting for him to grow up and ask for a pet. That way I can at least get him to promise to look after it, even though I know I’ll be the one caring for the pet and him in the long run.

So that’s how I got over my writer’s block and began recording random thoughts. I wonder if others do the same? Care to enlighten me?

If dogs interest you maybe write separate articles about the top breeds and then link them all together in one overview article.

I know how you feel when you talk about writers block, it happens to me at times, then other times, my mind does not stop… I feel ya.
But I like how you pulled something out of your hat sorta say, it’s a good idea to check whats happening, whats being talked about, and it does just give us enough push to come up with that idea what to write. Good Job

When I was in college, taking writing classes, our teacher introduced an exercise called “looping”. Looping is where you start your hand moving on a piece of paper, just moving along making inter-connected circles. Eventually words start to grow out of this, and then thoughts. That’s the theory, anyway. This is a little hard to accomplish on a computer, so I do word association. My poem “Stringy Stream of Conciousness” was born that way. I also carry a little pocket camera with me where ever I go. Not all of the images I capture can be used as stories; but they are a way of jogging ideas to the surface.

Nicely written article. I deal with the issue of writer block with the aid of an idea pad. I carry it everywhere. Keep up the good write.

Those are great ideas Daisy, I’m going to get looping now.

interesting. I have never bothered to look at that new button. I do not pay attention to what is a hot search. I just write what moves me, guess that is why I make so little
