Many articles have been written on how to get onto the Triond hot content list, but clearly, no one really knows how or they would be achieving it every time. Some say get “I like it” clicks, others say get reads, other even say write well, but none of this guarantees you a top spot. Only Triond knows the secret.
How do you get onto Triond’s hot content list? I have been around here for a few years now and once over I thought I had worked it out. The articles that got the most reads got to the top. However, this is no longer the case.
The answer is certainly ‘no’.
I have read hot content articles where the grammar is very poor, the spelling, even with the aid of the Triond spellchecker is bad and the content is even worse. Articles with a few lines of badly shoved together text gleaned from other websites are getting into hot content. (Don’t get me wrong, this is not direct plagiarism in the case of articles.)
Where poetry is concerned I am ashamed to say that I have noticed poems written by well-known poets being stolen and republished under someone’s name just to grab them a few cents. However, I am not ashamed to admit advising Triond of this when I notice it.
Sometimes they do but this rule doesn’t work either. I read on the forum recently that articles with zero reads had made their way into the hot content list. I have had a couple that have made it there with under twenty reads each, yet others that amassed a few thousand reads within a hour were no way to be seen.
No, you don’t get to the top because you get a lot of reads.
To be honest I have no idea. I have experimented with careful keywords to optimise my work, tried to think up more exciting titles and even study the work of those who do make it there every time. I know how to market my work and I do so relentlessly but I rarely make the hot content list these days.
Some writers are, I suspect, getting their thousands of reads from what I will term the ‘dark side of the internet’. There are ways and means I am told, but most would never entertain such methods and even fewer know about them.
So, how do Triond decide who gets onto the hot list?
I really don’t know. I don’t believe its favouritism, or that it is just a random selection, or someone’s particular whim. Surely there must be a method.
So, I throw out the challenge to Triond. Please tell us how you select the hot content articles. Don’t say it’s on merit because it clearly isn’t and don’t say it’s on reads because that isn’t true either. If you tell us how to improve and get up there, we will all strive a bit harder to achieve it.
No, not any more. It used to be that articles and poems that were listed there were well written and had managed to get lots of reads plus ‘I like it’ clicks, but not anymore. It is now a game of chance and the odds are not stacked in favour of the writers who do the most work.

Some food for thought here. This is helpful.
September 27th, 2009 at 3:44 am
The hot content is not only part that I’m puzzled, Louie..Take a look at the hot users, most of them have about 2-5 items in their profile..
September 27th, 2009 at 5:42 am
very interesting. I wonder how you got in the hot content list? I’ve noticed what you are talking about. It doesn’t seem really fair when I know writers that get so many reads, so many likes, and comments… but they aren’t on the hot content list. I satisfied just writing, but there are a lot of people who really want to get on that list and are willing to work hard for it. How will they do that if they don’t know how it is done?
September 27th, 2009 at 5:47 am
I too, have often wondered about this.
September 27th, 2009 at 5:53 am
I would also like to know who are the “real owners” of Triond?
If so, I would like to suggest to them that they should also do something that another site, the former TIBU used to do and that was to award pennies to people who read and commented on other members’ posts. I think that worked quite well. Also, TIBU’s hot content was based on the number of visits a particular post got, which was kind of unfair if the writer used some catchy phrase–usually with some sexual connotation or reference in the title.
September 27th, 2009 at 5:56 am
You spoke my heart
September 27th, 2009 at 5:59 am
You are right. It all depends upon the mood of the concerned authorities. This article is based upon your honest opinion; but this article too does not contain any secret of reaching the hot content.but it has managed to reach the hot content!!Then it must be combination of factors like pick and choose, random choice, on the basis of well known and established names, on the basis of a preconceived notion, giving a chance to the youngsters and new comers etc, etc Definitely there seems to be no yardstick or parameters in choosing the articles that reach the hot content.Hence, I am least worried about it except posting my articles and if time permits reading others. Thanks for sharing.
September 27th, 2009 at 6:00 am
And I see you’ve just made the hot content list…someone must have been watching out for you.
September 27th, 2009 at 6:05 am
Haha, and your in the hotlist.
September 27th, 2009 at 6:36 am
Yes, I agree, maam.
September 27th, 2009 at 6:42 am
you know what? this article is currently on the list
lol
but yes i agree with you withe the limited knowledge i have gained as a newbie. i had once made it to the top list for a couple of hours but i must admit i am not sure that the article though informative was the best among the thousands of others that were published along with it. i have also seen several articles, which in my viewpoint (others might disagree) should not have made it because there are many more better and well written articles on triond.
good write
September 27th, 2009 at 7:07 am
This is so true Louie! I remember there was a time when only truely deserving content appeared on the Hot Content list. Obviously it is no longer so. But guess what, this one’s on the Hot List!
I really hope Triond replies to your question about their method of choice of content for the Hot Content list, it’s one thing that’s been bothering me a lot.
September 27th, 2009 at 7:08 am
I’d love to know how articles get on the Hot Content list, considering I wrote an article a week or so ago and it got onto the hot content list.
It only had 40 or so views and 6 likes, which when put into contrast with a few other of my articles is fairly mundane.
Great article though, and I’m happy to see it in hot content
September 27th, 2009 at 7:43 am
Great article and happy to see you made the “Hot Content List”. Very much deserved!
September 27th, 2009 at 7:48 am
A really vital point made, I must say. Personally, I believe that ‘i like it’s and comments shoot an article to success on the ‘Hot Content’ but I know that some of my articles itself have had some grammatical errors and some spelling checks. I think that when it comes to the ‘Hot Content’ it’s the hard hitting or incredibly interesting topics that make it big (like this one – because it has an EXCELLENT point). Good point made.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:06 am
I can confirm that articles with zero views can make the hot content list, because one of mine did (as you know). I, too, would like to know what it is you should actually be aiming for in order to make the list. I think it’s unreasonable that we aren’t aware. Great article.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:23 am
Oh, this has puzzled me too. Last year when I joined Triond, I only managed to make it to the top 10 around 3 times, and they got higher page views than the others then. Now I noticed, I have almost always managed to land on the list, though the page views of some of my articles are not that high.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:23 am
I have had several articles make the hot content list and I never understood why one article did or didn’t either.
As far as I can see is the only real purpose the content serves is that once you are on it you get a few more views on that article.
I do think there should be some set standard.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:42 am
Several members with NO CONTENT at all, were recently removed from the HOT CONTENT list.
Then a day or some later, another user with NO CONTENT PUBLISHED landed on there…. it is asinine and ridiculous that these users should be on this list. I say, abolish the TOP-100 list altogether if this is the best that they can do.

September 27th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Hi Louie,
Good insights, as usual. The best approach is simply to write, write well, write often, and the rest will follow as a matter of course.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Quality does not matter (as you mentioned), views don’t matter ( I have an article with over 6,000 views). Spelling and proper English ABSOLUTELY are not factored in. Who knows?
September 27th, 2009 at 9:18 am
I think it’s possible that hot content has to do with what topics the site managers want to see listed. Topics that will attract new writers are surely HOT, for the more writers, the better chance of advertisers supporting the site.
September 27th, 2009 at 9:27 am
The “Hot Content” list is something I don’t worry about. I write. I read. I comment. That’s it.
September 27th, 2009 at 9:37 am
I agree with you Louie, I don’t think the hot spots are based on the writer’s quality or the amount of reads etc.
I also think that many readers cannot really read what the writer has written. 1) because all the friends and reads they have, they would not have time to write, and 2) I have had a few writers wirte in my comments about me commenting on their material without a mention of the story I had written. I then logged onto their profile page and found they had a lot more friends and reads than me. What have they got to complain about?
I just like writing, I like to be able to piece together good stories as you may have seen, and edit them with as good Grammar and Spelling as possible. Unfortunately I have to agree that I have noticed worse.
As far as the Hot Spots are concerned, they do not bother me that much; because I do not write enough. But thanks for the warning, I will not expect anything else from Triond.
Kind Regards
Tim
September 27th, 2009 at 9:55 am
I’m past caring about it these days!!!
September 27th, 2009 at 10:13 am
It seems to me that this depends on how many comments are received on an article. When it exceeds a certain number of comments it is automatically eligible to be placed in the hot content list.
September 27th, 2009 at 10:18 am
You have really written very well about an issue that is of concern to every Triond writer. My guess is that each of the Triond site managers – healthmad, socyberty….send their own nominations based on their judgement. Unless the person who chooses them goes through all the articles, it is not possible to make a fair choice. That’s a laborious process and needs a person solely dedicated for this. Even selecting an article based on number of views/comments can be contentious, because some people can market them well through organized networks of friends.
September 27th, 2009 at 10:24 am
The number of comments an article gets does not have any bearing on it being in the hot list Gijo. At one time I thought it was to do with the rate at which it was getting hits i.e. the number of hits per hour. Whether this has any bearing on it I am no longer sure.
September 27th, 2009 at 10:31 am
Yes Louie, I used to need at least 1,000 views to make the list and about 10,000 to reach the top but these days that is no longer the case. But one of the biggest misconceptions at Triond by people who have not yet made the list is that making the list will get them tons of views. It will not. It will get you a limited number of views and some extra comments and likes but that is it.
Making the list is great and fun but I don’t spend any time thinking about it or trying to figure it out. Your better off just publishing more content.
September 27th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Well written… I agree with you. I don’t think comments and ‘i like it’ are the reason behind this. Anyway… Does it matter?
September 27th, 2009 at 10:49 am
Right again, Louie. Remember when we used to get on the hot content list when we had thousands of views per night?
SU doesn’t work in the same way any more either. 5 thumbs up don’t give you the same response it used to.
Like you, I’m puzzled. I hope there’s a method. Also, the pay per click seems to have gone down too. The hot content list is a joke. I’ve seen a literal ‘joke’ on it once that was something quickly nudged together and badly written. It was even a joke I knew as a child. What?
September 27th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Thank you for writing this article. You have articulated what many of us have noticed and you have given voice to our concerns.
Several of your commenters said that it doesn’t matter to them. I think that we ought to be concerned. Firstly, it does damage to the reputation of Triond if they declare that these are the best or the most popular articles of the day. Secondly, getting onto the hot content list is promotion of those articles, and pretty much guarantees that they will receive more views for as long as they stay on the list.
September 27th, 2009 at 11:45 am
Well-written article. The Hot Content is a mystery–it’s especially confusing to me now I’ve gotten several articles on it. Some of these have gotten there with very few views (less than 10). My recipe that was on there yesterday didn’t even get 40 views after being on the list all day. Many of the articles I get on there have around 500 views now–certainly not wildly successful. They normally pop up on the the list when they have about 200 views.
September 27th, 2009 at 11:57 am
Thanks for all the comments.
With regard to those who say it doesn’t matter to them, well, they are entitled to their opinion.
However, it does matter very much to me and to other serious writers on Triond, if the general public is led to believe that the Hot Content lists are the very best of the articles on the site.
Don’t get me wrong, there is some good stuff among it, but there is some really disgraceful stuff too. How must we look to outsiders if this is the best Triond writers can do? Would you look through with a view to hiring anybody, or even reading more? I wouldn’t!!!
September 27th, 2009 at 11:58 am
Excellent article and I am so glad that someone mentions it. I am going to have to agree with you on this one 100%. I have a read a number of articles published on Hot content with a lot of grammatical and spelling errors. Also, some of the stuff that gets published on hot content is non-sense like the type of articles on purple slinky. There are some great ones though. I have read a lot of them. But I do agree with you and think that a lot of articles that do get published is about favoritism. I was thinking about this last night. It’s a shame that people are getting their stuff from the dark side of the internet. Those types are only lying and kidding themselves or who knows if they are plagiarizing their information they write from books. I have also found that some writers have tried to copy ideas from my articles and write a similar article like mine. Thanks for bringing this matter to everyone’s attention.
September 27th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
This article thread is certainly garnering many comments, and such deservedly belongs on HOT CONTENT/TOP-10
September 27th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
I haven’t made any money and I am just going to accept it! lol
September 27th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
By the way, clever way to get comments!
September 27th, 2009 at 12:12 pm
Very important issue raised. So, let’s wait and see what response we get from Triond.
September 27th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
You know what? That’s a really, really, really good question. I’ve looked at some of the poorly written article that make the list and I can’t figure out what they’ve got over mine. Anyway this article is on hot content now and how many views has it gotten?
September 27th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
I have an idea as to how triod decides who makes it here. Its probably the articles that generate the most money in least amount of time make it. Since the owners of triod are making money then they want the articles that get them money put out and thats not necesarlilly the articles with the most views, likes, or comments.
September 27th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
OK, I have invited Udi Oz to set us all straight regarding this, if he has time. I do hope he accepts the invitation.
September 27th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Very interesting piece. I do not know either but I do think that it is weird how the Triond system works…
September 27th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Great article, so true! Yes, I’ve seen some real s*** on the “hot content” list. Pretty sad what some people will do to make a dollar over the course of a month. It’s also annoying that Triond seems incredibly lax checking the content and grammar of articels. I’m pretty sure a 2nd grader could write something and have no problem publishing it on Triond. Glad you brought the subject up.
September 27th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
This is very true. I’ve seen poorly written articles on that list.
September 27th, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Thank you for your comments on the matter.
September 27th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
This is only a joke meant for laughter, maybe a faint giggle…but to all the members of Triond and by the grace of Louie Jerome
, excellent piece or work by the way, Let us all trying using this very title on our next article and see where that can get us.
Again I only mean this comment in the most humor sort of way. lol
September 27th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I don’t know how a post is picked up for Hot Content. The first one I ever had on was ” Moonshine” and it got over 500 hits in an hour, it was on for 10 days. My others have been on a day or two and one for only a few hours but none have ever picked up as many hits as fast as the first one that made it.
September 27th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Well whatever the reason, this got into the top ten too. Great work as always, Louie, I’m sure this set a good few people straight.
September 27th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
It used to be fun to try to get on the list. As your views went up, you moved higher up that list, and it did feel pretty good. Now it seems it is just a place to put things. I posted a recipe a few weeks ago, and with 6 clicks it was Hot Content, where last month I had several thousand views on an article and never made it. I can`t figure it out.
September 27th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
I think TRIOND is an automated site which has no editor and is making money hand over fist on peoples passion to write..I could write a poem or article and only put in single letter and it will be published in less than five minutes.About the hot content?? Im afraid its an automated selecting process which is hit and run and has no idea whos who as no one is really looking at the content.I would leave this site only i have made some friends here and i like reading the good writers on this site.
September 27th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
I used to know what it felt like to be in the hot content, and at that time had worked very hard on the article and had a very large amount of views. Now if I click on some of them I back out quickly as the grammatical errors remind me of someone in fifth grade. I do not want to offend anyone so I leave no comment. Louie, I am not referring to yours. lol, and wonder of all wonders, I currently have one but it has only 27 views.
The magic formula is a military secret and someone is taking it to the grave with them.
Personally, I think Triond may be trying to entice new blood by placing them in the hot content. It is terrific bait. It worked for me. Once you get a taste of being in the hot content you will continue to strive to be there?
But it is not prestigious any more. It not worth the sweat. I write because I must, not for fame, certainly not for money.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
excellent, Louie. I stopped reading what is in the Hot Content some time back and only skim it for articles of my friends that I might have missed on the Dashboard …
maybe there are 10 chief publishers in Triond and each of them has one place to fill in the Hot Content?
September 27th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
I have no idea, I thought it was by the hits you get. I hardly ever look at it. Somebody tells me ever once in awhile i’m on the hot list but I’m too busy reading, writing, and commenting to pay that much attention.
September 27th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Great article.
September 27th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Well, I’m new here and I am aspiring one of my articles to belong in that list…someday?
Hehe, hope Triond will answer that question.
September 27th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
It’s attitude.. are you, “HOT?” j
September 27th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Who really knows? I’m new so this is informative and saddening.
September 27th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
Louie,
Excellent article. I’ve often wondered just how does anyone get on the hot content list. I think its time the editors come clean on this. I work hard on my poems and song lyrics, but haven’t ever made it to the hot content list that I can ever remember. Come to think of it, I’ve been writing for Triond since 2007, and I have yet to receive my first check from them. Another thing that disturbs me is, it takes longer now to get an acceptance after you down load your article, poem, or whatever. It used to take about an hour or so, now it takes three or four days to get a response. One other thing that bugs me, we no longer can download from our files which was not only quicker but easier to do. Now we have to go through the Online Editor, which I think takes longer. I liked it better when they gave us a choice between the two. I’ve often tried my best to make it to the Hot Content list, but I still haven’t made it. I wrote an article on Child Sexual abuse I thought would have made it to the Hot Content list, but it didn’t. It was a article I felt very strongly about. I hope we get these and some of these other problems I’ve mentioned, straightened out soon. Again, Excellent article Louie.

September 27th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
i, as a new comer, would love to know how to make the list. i like the feed back and the pointers that i get from other readers but i am just not getting out there. great article!! keep up the wonderful work and let us know if they respond to you..please
September 28th, 2009 at 12:41 am
My speculation is that at least some of the hot content list is indeed just pageviews. You will notice the Ruby Hawk and Mnofdichotomy are on the hot content list regularly — and Mnofdichotomy has some interesting ways to maximize pageviews, which ways he has written about on Triond recently. Ruby has a ton of Triond friends who view her work, and her work in uniformly well written — I do believe it is pageviews here as well though. There is some hot content that is not pageview based, and those are the mysteries. Maybe just the Triond crew likes those, and that is cool — it is Triond’s business and they can promote what they like.
Thanks for crystallizing this idea for us — I know it was on everyone’s mind, and it is good to know that all of us are puzzled together.
September 28th, 2009 at 2:04 am
Brilliant article. Definitly deserves its spot on the hot content list. I agree, if we did find out the formula, we would strive even more to get on the list.
September 28th, 2009 at 2:30 am
great article! and I am glad to see it on the hot list x
September 28th, 2009 at 5:30 am
I know that some times I have mistake in my article. i never had made it to top. Author don’t always see their own misteakes
September 28th, 2009 at 7:48 am
You finally made it! Congratulations!
September 28th, 2009 at 8:06 am
Whatever else your article did, Louie, it definitely got attention back to the articles in the Hot Content section – clicks coming in from there are definitely higher than last week!
September 28th, 2009 at 8:07 am
Really liked this article, Im not really all the concern about making it on the hot content list, rather my focus is in my writing. I guess if I ever make it then I do but if I dont oh well I will continue to do what I love to do which is to write.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:27 am
I think one or two commenters have the wrong impression here. I did not write this because I never get onto the Hot Content list, on the contrary, I often do.
I wrote it to point out the inconsistencies surrounding the selection of articles for the list.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Perhaps I wont spend too much time on my Triond content now then.
Fairly new to it and have only published 2 articles, which are slowly getting hits now.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Great article Louie. Congratulations on making the hot content list which i know has no special interest to you, but i agree with you\’re assessment of the hot content list. Nobody has ever figured out a formula for what constitutes a piece of work that is worthy of hot content material. When and if we do, i\’m sure that none of us will be shocked or suprised by the results. Well done friend.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:30 am
I believe it is an automated system. It goes by a number of facters, including page hits, comments, time of day, likes, but also a number of random variables that allow those with little to no page hits to be able to see thier content on the “Hot List”. I doubt Triond will spill the beans (as everyone will be following the guidelines to see thier stuff on the hot list) but it would be nice to at least let us know some of the criteria, as I would love to see at least one of my articles make the list. GREAT READ
September 28th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
LilRoastBeef above has hit the nail on the head and so spares me the task of explaining. It’s all to do with algorithms and Triond have never revealed which they use in order to generate the HC list but it is surely true that there are often one or two glitches in this particular matrix!
Coincidentally, it is true of SU as well but the algorithms are different and a little more transparent. If you stumble something from say – Writinghood – and so do your SU friends, then this will be noted. If the same is true a number of times then the SU database will not fling your work at other people as much as its system will recognise the fact that some sort of cabal stumbling is or may be going on. If you do it loads of times you run the risk of your views reaching no-one.
Great article, Louie and one that has generated lots of comment and quite rightly so. I
September 28th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Thanks for shedding some light (kind of, sort of) on this subject. I recently had a friend/fan ask me why my work had not yet showed up on the HC list. I think I do quality work but, thus far, I only have a small “cult following” of about 68 fans. Of course, not all of them are online any particular day, so they are not all viewing my work as soon at it is published.
Does having hundreds or thousands of fans (of which perhaps a few hundred will view your work as soon as it’s published) have any bearing on getting on the HC list?
September 28th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
I think you know how to get on the hot contents list. You just will not share it. How did this article suddenly appear on hot contents out of the blues?
September 28th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Sasha: What an intelligent comment! Thanks!
September 28th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Because I feel so strongly about the impropriety of how some articles get to HOT and hot articles don’t, that I keep coming back to this to re-read this.
I see that I got an offering to #8 and I did it with just …two views?! Of course I have received scores since this morning, but two views gets to TOP-10 in #8 position? :-\
I have had other articles get 100s of views and never even show up on TOP-100… so, -maybe we don’t sweat this detail because it is a mystery and will never be resolved.
September 28th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Congratulations for making on the hot content list with this article. This was a very good question, Louie! I assumed that you had to get a lot of views to make the hot content list, but I wonder if what others have suspected is true. I wonder if it is automated. I have seen some articles on the hot content list that had some errors in them too. One of my articles made the hot content list, but it didn’t have that many views yet, but one that I did get a lot of views for didn’t make it at all. That was quite a head scratcher for me.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Yeah, I too agree with you and have often wondered about this.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Sometime I use to think it was because the title had promise for greater views. Who knows?
September 28th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Louie, your articles are always well-written; however, you are correct in saying only part of your articles make Hot Content. I think it is kind of fun to make the list (and I have a couple of times), but the comments I receive from friends mean more to me–and the slowly increasing pennies that come from my articles. Ruby has an article on the list every now and then–more frequently of late–and somehow manages to send a kind message to the folks on her friend list as well.

Hi Louie ..Heartiest Congratulations as your article landed in the hot content list ..I would like to know the mechanism that enables the content to appear in “Hot Contents List” ..One of my article has more than 1800 views but still it didn’t appear in the list. Wonder why ? Would definitely want to know the criteria for making into the hot content , so that I can improve myself !! Great Article .

From the page: Does it really matter? Is it prestigious to get on the hot content list?
No, not any more.
So, where is the spirit here in triond to be the best writer?
September 28th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
yup, now that you’ve said it. thank you so much. i think we should ask Triond to put up a ‘Featured Content’ aside from the ‘Hot Content’ to recognize low profile but great quality articles..

For those who have asked: 555 reads so far, and that certainly is not a lot. Topics like this will not attract many readers from outside Triond though.

555 is great for a beginner like me. Great article ,wish you the best.

I really understand what you are saying about triond and the people who are being place into the ‘hot content list’ and this is truly some food for thought ,because for beginner’s like myself we need to know these thing and learn for some of the people who has already expreince what you have and still expreince.great artical and God bless you and your writing!

Very good article, the topic that you treat is interesting, I also have found many faults in triond, like for example: Lack of information to the moment to reject an article.
Best regards Louie Jerome!

I have made it onto the list several times, but there is really no rhyme or reason how articles make it onto the list. I have read comments on this article suggesting that the number of “I likes” on an article does it, and some say the number of comments and “reads” garnered does it. Then, some say you must write well and often. I had this argument with Triond almost a year ago (see my article, Triond Hot List) I also had a thread on Triond’s forum. I pretty much got the same suggestions as this article, including comments that no one had a clue. I have seen filthy, vulgar and shallowly written articles on the hot content list. Most of you probably know who wrote some of the nastiest. Now, tell me, how do those kinds of articles make it onto the list? I have also noticed some writers who are always on the list regardless what they write or how they write it. They can do no wrong. These writers swear that you must write well and often. Some are my friends, so I will not mention their names. So do these writers always write so well on such great subjects that they automatically make the list? I think not. When I forced an answer from Triond, they told me it is all about algorithms… I had to laugh on that answer. My preoccupation on this subject a year ago and the answer from Triond gave me the feeling that editors pick and choose both articles to be on the list and hot writers. After expending so much energy and getting such unbelievable results, I was convinced that the list is ridiculous and not credible, and therefore, I ignore it.

So u finally got onto the ‘Hot Content’ List…How does it feel to be famous!? lol I find that i do read articles on the list. Also my friend’s recent publications… I frequently keep tabs of their work and comment as often as possible.. I aslo hope that they do the same for me and we can all gain from this attitude!! Why be on here to write if you don’t read also!? Do you gain more revenue being on the list? Is it REALLY the hits? Likes? Comments? Factor into how you get onto it? Or really just Triond putting articles up when they feel like it!? lol Oh well… Will carry on regardless and keep entertaining peeps!!

It’s a part of Triond that remains to be a mystery. I, too am baffled by the formula. I guess they won’t tell us or else we’d all still be asking why didn’t this or that writer make it to “hot content” even if the formula was followed. lol!
Great write up Louie.

“She said from the hot content list…” ;p Seriously, I am right there with you. I used to get up there quite a bit for a while, but now, my articles with over a thousand reads aren’t, no matter how quickly they get those reads or who comments or what the title is, or where it’s put on the internet, or ….well, yeah, I don’t get it either. I think it really is just picked out by random by those in charge, some from established writers like RJ Evans, and some just…picked out.

If 555 is not a lot I am beginning to believe I am a dismal failure. I sit here celebrating the fact that 30 people have clicked! I don’t think I will become a millionaire on this site! I started 3 weeks ago and have put up about 100 photographs (yes they are good ones) and 20 articles (including pending articles) and I have so far made $1.30! Are there more lucrative spots to go to? Message me if you know of one! I write good content that is not too bad grammatically and is usually a good read.

I haven’t read all replies, as I don’t have the time, but having reading the article and about half the comments I thought I might add my own opinion. My apologies if I am repeating.
A lot of people are saying that they have x amount of views on their article, and that doesn’t shoot them to the hot content list. Maybe, just maybe it is not the overall amount of views in total for that article, but how many views in a set amount of time? For instance, Joe Bloggs article has an overall view count of 600, but only 3 were made in the last 24 hours, whereas Jane Doe’s article has an overall view count of 150, and 60 views were made in the last 24 hours.
I am a newbie, have only got 5 articles published and one draft. I am not on the hot contents list. But this is just my opinion.
Happy writing!

the first article i ever wrote made it on hot content. should have bought a lottery ticket that day too.

An excellent and thought provoking article…I also dream of to be on Hot content list, but not accomplished this so far!! You have justified our thoughts!!

Thank you for this article. I haven’t had any respect or haven’t taken any notice of what is on the hot contents list for a long time now because with a few exceptions the quality of work is abysmal. Don’t get me wrong, i am not a ‘literary’ snob (I just appreciate being able to follow what I am reading).
I am not a massive contributor to Triond and what I have been writing is as much for my own sake, in a sense, as it is to offer a bit of diversion to people who spend time online in places like Triond.
I think you are right if people judged all our writings by what is on the hot contents list then they would think the quality of work overall to be poor (and that is not the case).
Again thank you for your article. As far as I am concerned it is another winner whether it makes the hot content list or not
All the best

Sorry to hear about what’s going on.I suppose to join Triond as a hobby writer, without high expectations.
If you want to promote your sites or blogs you have to join other sites, like Shetoldme at http://tinyurl.com/yavyd9v.
The internet is all about experimenting and seeing what works best for you.

Hot stuff
– I’m still green around the gills with all this stuff, but I’m looking forward to trying my hand at cracking the secret formula !!
October 20th, 2009 at 5:03 am
Hmm..a bit of a mystery..but one can’t help but wonder what would happen if we all adopted the practices of some of the undistinguished and unscrupulous writers here at Triond..you know the ones I’m speaking of Louie Jerome..they’re in it purely for the dosh and the attention >:-(…thanks for sharing your thoughts Louie
