A question of being completely non computer savvy and not understanding the way things work here.
OK, I give in. I started on Triond on December 12th last year, have posted, what I think is a tremendous number od article, stories, poems, steamy tales and descriptive prose, to the tune of around 350 sperate posts, but I still have had less than 5,000 views in total, my best day achieving a mind-blowing 220! I get loads of comments, telling me how good my stuff is, yet it does not catch on?
I have it posted on facebook, twitter, my blog, have joined the grabbedarticles site, socialmonkee and sidetick, doing everything I can think of to promote the staggeringly good written works that stem from my fevered brain, yet I still manage more hits per day on environmentalgraffiti, where I have 241 articles posted, than I ever get on triond, despite no longet putting new stuff onto that site! I could really use someone explaining to me how this is possible?
My stats show that 64% od my viewers are in ther UK, only 23% in the USA, so my humble efforts must not appeal to our American friends, else I simply choose to write about completely the wrong things? I have looked, many times, at what is supposedly hot, and what isn’t, but even my trying to put out posts on topics that might be popular seem unable to hit the mark. I had one post on EG that got 80,000 plus hits, and several others that managed 20K plus, so why not on triond?
Then too, there seems to be a lull in my viewing figures every time I have nothing new published over the preceding twelve to sixteen hours. Three new posts them, almost inevitably, lead to what, for me, is a big upsurge in interest again. Am I guilty of having posted far too muchg, far too soon, of spoiling the audience with such a glut of new stuff that my older posts no longer interest them? That would be terrible, because I puit these things out there, with the sincere wish that many, many people will read them.
If anyone among you has the slightest idea what, if anything, I am NOT doing right, then I would really appreciate your letting me know. I an a good contributor to triond, and get plenty of complimentary comments about the things I create and post, but sometimes I do wonder just what it will take to get into the heady hierarchy of people who have had thier work seen, and appreciated, by tens of thousands of eager viewers. Right now, getting into that club seems an ambition too far, but maybe one day.

I have often wondered the same things…I don’t have any advice, but I really hope someone does. I don’t seem to get many views unless I publish articles right on top of each other, however it takes time to write well written material.

Tony – I don’t understand it either. Although I really just write for what interests me, I don’t get the views that I thought I would get by this time either. I know anything worthwhile takes time – so I just keep plugging along hoping for the best. Best of luck to you. I will read more of your work & do my best to support you!

I don’t have any good advice! Wish I did!

I am too new to offer any kind of advice. However, I think getting 220 views in one day is pretty good. I think there is a lot of content out there so it’s hard to read everything. Personally I follow your articles. I don’t post a comment on everything, however I always hit the “I like it” button.

hon, I love your stuff. My fiction wasn’t getting as many views as I though either till I started my new sci-fi story yesterday. Dear God, I got 8 hits on the first part in five minutes!!!!!! My rant and rave article got a lot of hits as well and so have my animal articles which, quite frankly, I only wrote so I would qualify for the Feb. bonus. Then this morning I dashed off an article about why I hate modern horror movies and it has been getting a lot of hits as well. *shrugs* I don’t have a clue!

I can’t answer this question Tony – I have the same problem.
Never heard of enviormentalgraffiti – is it any good?
February 13th, 2011 at 2:59 pm
Well Tony, don’t know if my humble advice will do any good but anyway here it is: pay attention to how you tag your articles and what key words you use to optimize them so they get better ranked on searches, thus gaining more views. Wish you good luck!

The fact of the matter is that creative writing just doesn’t do as well as informative articles. I’ve always found that to be true. Everyone wants to know how to do a certain thing, at some point in their life, but not everyone is a fan of poetry. Posting on hot topics gets the hits, like how to’s abotu facebook and android phones and the latest video game. Finance is also a hot topic. I wrote an article on an artist supply and how to use it in a way that is contrary to the directions because the directions suck, and it is becoming my hottest article.. who knew? Apparently lots of artists have the same problem with that item, and it gets searched a lot. I would have never suspected. Sometimes you just hit on these things. But I would balance your creative writing with more how to articles.
Good luck and keep it up.

I don’t know. I am still hanging on to the hope that if I keep going it will pay off.

I have only been here a month and a half and I don’t have much wisdom to offer. I have written articles that took me hours and hours to research, write and edit and get thirty views in total over a month and one morning, I typed out my kids’ favourite joke as it would qualify for the February special. I was literally standing in my kitchen typing quickly as I was heading out the door and that article was on the popular articles and got nearly 300 views. What the heck?! Anyway, my best advice is just to keep plugging away at it. If you are getting positive comments, then probably all you are missing is some SEO and luck.
P.S. My best day by far, I had 175 views, so 220 seems pretty good to me!

I was told it was a good idea to introduce yourself in the forum. I thought like you it was slow and payment is much less in triond. You have done well by comparisons. You could look at the top ten writers like ruby hawk. I would like over 200 hits in a day. I have found current affairs creates hits but as you have said that is journalism. Good luck I will view your work now you are added as a friend.

I am new here only last January 2011, and I have to searched my way through the system of Triond. As far as I observed, its a must to make friends from 300 to 700 or more, then, posting little by little (1 or 2) articles per day. Don’t rush things by submitting 5 to 8 articles per day. Viewers can’t catch-up with what you’re writing for. But, make sure that you visits your friends; daily or every other day. If you can hired someone to make the visits, then the better. Also, I observed that friends won’t visit your articles if you’re not visiting theirs. It’s a two-wat traffic that really made these views. This is only my observations. Thanks.

Reading and commenting other people pieces help. Don’t just randomly add people and expect them to read yours. I have so many “fans” but most of them have probably never even read a single piece. Leaving thoughtful, helpful comments is a good thing to do. Too many people leave contrived, generic comments like “Nice share” or “Interesting article.” We’re supposed to be writers, right? Be creative and genuine in your comments. You do have a lot of comments in this article, but only 2 “I Like Its?” Why do most people hardly ever click it? No one has ever answered this truthfully. Is it because they didn’t like it? I had people said they liked a piece but don’t click the “I Like It” button. I think Triond should get rid of it since no one really uses it.

I am in the same boat! Only the American’s seem to like my writing more than the Brits as 54% of views are from the USA, and only 9% from the UK (the rest are Eastern Europe and Asia)- so I can only assume that I too am doing something wrong, as I am yet to receive well into the hundreds of views, despite sharing on websites like stumbleupon! I guess it is all a matter of interest, so whilst your articles appeal to one market, they don’t to others, so maybe we need to be more general to get more views?

great one

I’ve been on here 15 months and the views are just starting to improve. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of self marketing
