I may be wrong or not, but the only way to know this would be by reading about your views on what makes good and real hot content worth to read and comment.

When I first registered here, I had a look to the hot content list and I have to say that it put off for a good while from the site. Or, at least, I thought that none of what I used to write could fit in.
As far as I know, hot content stands for present day news or features. These news may be about politics or politicians or current affairs, as I can read many of them are about sports, sportsmen or celebrities. This is perhaps what put me off as I am not one for sports or sportsmen and never mind celebs that I always wonder what they have done to be on the spot-lines so often.
What would your list of hot content be? A list of hot topics that you could write a piece that could make you proud you ever wrote it.
My list would be like this.
Whether I like to write about it, it’d be the financial fraud many countries have been plunged in. This is in my opinion hotter than a famous player winning a medal or a football team winning the Champion’s League.
Soaring unemployment everywhere and countries being on the verge of bankrupt.
People losing their homes because of these financial fraud that politicians pretend it to be an economic crisis.
Corruption.
Destruction of the environment in the name… of what? Progress?
A well educated generation that has been known as the No No Generation, that is, the No Job, No Home and No Pension Generation, and thankfully a No Fear Generation.
The fact that these days governments are mere puppets in the hands of the financial markets. It seems pointless to vote for this or that party of our choice, if in the end the financial markets will decide on what’s to be done in every country.
Reading on these topics day in and day out in a handful of newspapers, I find it difficult to set myself to write on petty issues such as so and so getting married for umpteenth time or someone else found dead after overdose or whatever. Yet, these are the topics categorised as Hot Content. These are the issues that seem to attract more readers and, therefore, more views and comments on their articles. it makes me think that either this so called hot content is quite biased or many people are getting engrossed on it to bury their heads in the sand as an ostrich would do. Meanwhile, the real hot content remains as mere issues.

The fact that You The Reader Proves Facebook Talks is up there in the supposed hot content list week after week for over two years suggests to me that the so-called hot content list is a tentful of cons. :-S

And there “cons” is meant both in the English and French senses.

Having had many of my articles on Hot Content over the last couple of years, all I can say is that the process defies defining! It’s not number of views as I once thougfht. It could be topic matter, not necessaruily topical or conttroversial, but potentially interesting. Who knows, it does seem to be in the hands of the triond gods.

Your last sentence say it all “hot content remains as mere issue”.

Thanks to all for letting me know your views on this. I didn’t want to appear that I’m jelaous, because I’ve never had any of my articles on the hot content list, having written on some hot topics that are on the headlines everyday. Nevertheless, I’ll go on writing on topics I know well and can make me proud that I once wrote them. Thanks to all for commenting on this!

In my experience, articles analyzing financial news are the kiss of death for your Triond audience. I wrote a financial crisis article last August that made a point I hadn’t seen put forward in the media–and it’s had only 3 views so far, very low even for me. Even my articles on cat vomit are much more popular.

A Triond employee assured me that the plagiarist was banned but as you can see he and his 500+ articles are still on Triond here:
