Understanding Your Triond Personality: What are Your Triond Traits?

The way you approach Triond and the opportunities within the site can tell you a lot about yourself. More importantly, it can possibly lead to a few important questions about your behaviour.

There are not many people who don’t take a peek at their dashboard as a first port of call to check on their total earnings. We do this out of curiosity tinged with hope and meet it head on with varying degrees of satisfaction, surprise or disappointment. But after we have “clocked in”, where do we go next? How does each of us wander the corridors of cyberspace and decide which door handles to try?

What is your triond Personality? Let us take a little wander together to focus on some key opportunities in our community and consider the ways in which we use them.

Comments

We often knock upon the comments door because naturally writers want to take a look at what other people think about their work. Comments tell the writer a great deal about the way their work is being received. Are you someone that seeks to find positive comments that make you feel proud of your work or do you hope to find some constructive criticism amongst them?

Both are important but the second type of comment is rarer because readers want to show their appreciation first and foremost and this is vital to every writer, not least the newbie. But sometimes it is good to read a comment that digs a little deeper, makes a suggestion and/or makes you think about improving your work as a result.

Do you take offence if someone questions your work or differs in their opinion?

The chances are that you have only written about a subject you believe in so this can be hard to take. But if the comment is constructive – a reflective Triond personality will accept it graciously and be a better writer because of this.

What kind of comments do you make?

Do you comment on everything you read or are you selective?

Sometimes a reader just leaves a “thank you” or “great article!” These will still be appreciated if they are genuine but to write a more in depth and effective comment takes time and effort, and sometimes patience with the security string and your commenting habits can tell you a lot about your Triond personality.

Community

Checking in to see what your friends have been up to can be an interesting way to start your reading programme.

Do you click and read every article that your friends have published or do you scan for a title that catches your eye?

Sometimes a friend may have written a very long article on something that you don’t have a natural interest in and in these cases do you read it in depth, scan it or pass it up?

There are pros and cons of both approaches of course but your reading behaviours will tell you a lot about your Triond personality. Reading such articles indicates that you have Triond patience, etiquette and a willingness to try and give something new a go. Sometimes we don’t read everything by our friends because we are pressed for time and pledge to return to it later and of course by passing, it could suggest that you are a person who knows what they like. However, a music teacher of mine once said that when people say “I know what I like” they are actually saying “I like what I know”. This often applies to me and I am doing my best to be more open minded and change this part of my triond personality.

I Like

Do you click like crazy on the “I like” button or have you got a marker that helps you judge it?

Is it possible to like everything we read or are there gradings in our mind?

I sometimes wonder what Triond would be like if we had a grading system. Would you grade something from 1-5, say from “pretty cool” to “I absolutely love it!”?

We can like the fact that someone has written an article on an interesting topic or the courage to tackle a difficult subject but is that the same as liking the article full stop or period as they say in the USA.  I only tend to click it if something has really touched me or I have genuinely enjoyed reading it.

What do you tend to do?

Forum

Are you a lurker or a contributor?

Maybe you just like to respond to certain threads either to help, support of share. This Triond personality trait is valuable because it helps to build the community and adds to the flow of the topic. Starting an interesting thread can show that you are a bit of a risk taker because there is always a chance that nobody will respond. You can also tell a lot about people’s motivation and curiosity on the forum because they come with questions and requests for all manner of things. The forum is fairly new and maybe you haven’t taken a look at it yet. If not, then I would urge you to because we have waited a long time for it to come into existence and it would be a shame for it to wither because we haven’t kept it alive!

The most telling personality on the forum is a thread starter that is just a link to someone’s own article. This shows that the writer has not fully understood or embraced the spirit of the community. Patient Triond-ites will be forgiving and ignore it. You can see this because these posts have no responses. Occasionally, when someone drops in a link saying “hey, I need people to read this!”, a learned Triond member will rap their knuckles and remind them that this is not the way to behave.

People join this wonderful community of triond for so many different reasons and as with any group, many of us develop and grow different strengths and skills the longer we are a part of it. The triond community is diverse and interesting with writers contributing articles, videos, pictures and creative writing from every conceivable stand point and interest base. It is what makes our little piece of cyberspace so incredibly unique and amazing. Developing your triond traits is part of this exciting journey, so be sure to enjoy it!

Good article! I am becoming more selective lately, I am trying to comment as much as I can.

I agree with Glynis. If something I see looks interesting, I will check it out since my time is limited.

Great job Glynis. I enjoyed this piece very much. I usually view one piece of work from each of my friends who have posted new material before I view a second of any writer. After that, I typically look at my articles and try to view something of each person who took time to comment on it because not everyone of my friends has a new piece each day, so I find them here. After that, I cruise back through viewing more if I have time. Again, great job!

I am so sorry Miss Lizzy; I called you Glynis because I saw her face on here by the comments section. Lol! with embarrassment. AC blushes and ducks out.

Great article! I have been reading so much on Triond lately, and do not always comment, only when inspired too. I enjoy this community!

Interesting article. I like your analysis of tirond users… not sure which one I am quite yet. But I do like your idea about the more descriptive voting instead of the like button.

    Happy 2009!
