Triond vs Helium: Their Positives and Negatives

Both Triond and Helium are good sources of online writing income. You just have to understand how they work.

Many writers who write online has tried most of the writing websites that give freelance writers a chance to be heard, be published and earn an income from their writing. Writing websites such as Triond, Associated Content and Helium are quite common among online writers and often you see writers of the different websites knocking the other sites as scams and something not worth their time and energy as a writer.

Well I am a member of Triond and Helium and as of yesterday an Associated Content member, and I have found that both Triond and Helium have their positives and negatives. From my personal use of Triond it seems to promote your content more and you seem to have a better chance of having your articles read on Triond than at Helium. I believe this has something to do with the ranking system at Helium. If your article is ranked at the top you will be read more times than the lower ranked articles.

However, the problem arises with the Helium ranking system when you come to observe how people search the net. Web users do not have time to sit around and sift through the all information available out there. As a result, web users are more likely to read the top three, at most, articles on a topic, if they read that much. Therefore, if you have an article ranked 5 out of 20, with the Helium ranking system you are not likely to get a lot of page views based on how web users search for information.

While on Triond, your content has a better chance of being read as each article is given its own page and is not ranked by how valuable Triond users think the article is. Consequently, I have made more on Triond from page views with just five articles than I have on Helium with 18 articles.

However, this is not to say that Helium is without any perks or positives. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I joined Helium in August and have not been writing as consistently as I have hoped or as other writers have. And with a poor writing consistency I was able to earn $250 in the Helium Marketplace in addition to my trickles of dollars from total page views.

What Helium lacks in wide readership for all its ranked members, it sure does make amends for in the Marketplace and in the weekly contests. I have never won a contest myself because I don’t feel the contest page is really my thing. I must admit that it hurts to see my article plummet to the bottom of the ranking, only to see them rise to their right place at the top at the end of the contest when I have already lost! Bummer.

I do have more confidence in the Helium Marketplace and contrary to my initial belief you don’t have to be from or have visited the area on which you write. I say this because I write mostly travel guides and tips in the Marketplace and thought that I couldn’t submit to the titles because I’ve never visited those places. One day I just wrote to a title and to my surprise I was chosen for a $44 article for writing about 550 words. The thing is just to follow the guidelines, research the area you are writing about and write with some passion and you have a good chance at being selected as publishers sometimes choose two to three writers to a title, or sometimes even seven.

As it goes for the weekly contests page I couldn’t really give any information on how to win one as I have never, but in my defense I have only participated in one contest. Sad, isn’t it? However, there are many articles on Helium from writers who win these contests almost every week on the website. All you have to do is just use the search tool and search for how to win Helium contests and attempt it yourself.

So when it comes to Triond and Helium, Triond has better readership as well as more flexible payment options. I talk about flexible payment options as some writers who write online do not live in countries where Paypal and the banking system work together. So if the option is Paypal only, it excludes great writers from sharing content. Triond, however, has the option of payment by check or Western Union and that is another positive.

Helium has an advantage over Triond when it comes to additional source of quick income. The Helium Marketplace and contests provide Helium members with a way to supplement their income from the page views they generate.

As it goes for my new membership on Associated Content I will try to update you on these new findings when possible.

The marketplace in Helium is like a lottery ticket…You need to have luck to win…Good points though..

Tommy, another great article! I belong to Helium but it wasn’t what I was looking for. Like so many others, I have run the gamut through the freelance sites and Triond is the only place I have made decent money. I am not saying this is the best place to be because I know the other freelance sites have many, many satisfied members. It is just the best place for me.

    Thank you for sharing.

For myself, belonging to all of the sites mentioned, I have to agree with the drawbacks of Helium. Although, since Helium seems to be based more on the social qualities of the writers interacting with other writers, I wonder if my slow return on article writing investment at Helium is due to my lack of effort to make “friends” at their site.

I rather enjoy associatedcontent.com’s method of up-front payouts. I’ve actually made more there than anywhere else so far. On the flip side, the readership of triond.com has no equal. I completely agree that Triond does a *fantastic* job of helping with article promotion.

I’m new to the writers’ scene online and there’s a lot to consider, and, overall, I choose to submit my articles to all three places. Initially, associatedcontent does best with about a $4 payout upfront. Over the course of two months, however, Triond beats that with readership payouts. Lagging behind them all is Helium – way behind. It was worth the time, for the long haul to post to Helium, for the SEO, if nothing else, but it just doesn’t pay out nearly as well as the other two.

    Hi Tommy,

Thank you for shedding some new light on this subject. I have also written for all of the sites you have mentioned, and I have personally earned more income with Triond than I have with the other freelance writing sites so far.

I believe the reason why this is, is because Triond has done an excellent job at promoting their site and that Triond members are given a whole array of marketing tools to use in generating additional readership on their own. If writers do not spend the time necessary to promote/market their articles, blogs or stories, then readership will suffer.

Being a freelance writer requires you to wear both the hats of a writer and that of a marketing professional. Of course, writers also need to write on and about subjects that are in demand for on the Internet. This can be quite challenging at times, because the most popular topics are always changing on the Internet daily and sometimes even by the hour. So, you always must be in research mode, so that you can stay in the loop and keep your articles, blogs and stories up to date.

    Very nice article, Tommy.

    God Bless,

    Nelson Doyle

Hey I am a new writer and have been a member of both Triond and Helium. I prefer Triond so far as I earned much more here. Though I do use Helium to get ideas for my health topics.

Great article. I’m new to Triond, but I would like to let readers know that I’ve submitted articles to Helium that been purchased by their partner sites, yet I’ve not gotten an actual payment from Helium to my PayPal account. I’m wondering if anyone has actually received money from them, and I intend to refrain from submitting in the future until I get paid. I like what I’ve heard about Triond, and will submit here.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been in a dilemma as to where to submit my articles as I too belong to the three writing sites, although I’ve just signed up with AC a few days ago and with Triond a few days earlier.

I believe that Triond really generates more readerships than Helium does.

As an online writer, I prefer the potential of Helium to Triond, which I found very clumsy to use. Of course, marketplaces change though my preference is still for Helium

This is a great article. I have heard many things about both Triond and Helium, but I decided to join Triond, so I’m new there. I was searching for which is better Triond or Helium and pulled you up. You did a great job of mentioning the pro’s and con’s of each, well done. I guess I will continue to focus on Triond and posting more articles before I adventure off into Helium.

Thanks for the write on the two sites and the bit on the AC as well. Triond is great for promoting a writer, I think. AC is nice for its contests and content. Helium is strange, I think. I belong to all three as well. :)

Triond has never woked out for me and I have never received any money from them. I have several articles up on the website which I have promoted on a regular basis untill I realised this site is a scam.

Hello everyone, I find triond the best site for getting page views and making money. But I also found a secret that if you add a lot of freinds they will each view your new articles.

That is why I am proposing that each person that views this freinds me and contacts mne I too will freind them and look at their articles.

    Best regards, Joey111
