Triond Isn’t Right for Everyone and That’s Ok

I’ve read some really BAD reviews of Triond. I laugh when I do. It seems that the critics want something here for nothing. And, until Triond finds a way to deliver that to the thoudands of writers here, it will be criticized.

Ok.

What the heck is it to be a writer here on Triond?

I have been here off and on for about 9 months. I have enjoyed writing here. Enjoyed reading here too. I haven’t made a truckload of money, NOR have I put in the effort to be exasperated in NOT having done that.

I feel more like a writer because I am among writers here. I get stuff “published” and get comments on my writing. And, YES, ANYONE who wants to call themselves a writer (with or without a general consensus of talent) can do exactly as I do.  So, in that way, Triond isn’t like real life.

There are people here who believe themselves to have talent and come to write and show others what they have. There are people who have a fantasy about becoming a freelance writer. People who would not have an opportunity to ever get one damn thing published without Triond. And, for those people, it’s many times not at all about the money. It’s about having a place that validates a dream….about being ALLOWED to have that dream. Many times writers improve here. They feel good about themselves and pay attention to comments. They read a lot of what others write and understand that Triond IS like real life in that, “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine”. So they scratch. They scratch because they want to keep the dream alive.

There are some VERY TALENTED writers here too. People who give us a gift in their writing. People who we would never “meet” if Triond didn’t give us a place to do that. People who humble us and inspire us to dig deeper as a writer.

Then there’s the money thing. The root of all evil. And, certainly where Triond takes the biggest hits for authenticity. Does Triond EVER promise that you’ll get rich if you can write? Nope. Does Triond make ANY real promises that it doesn’t keep? Nope.

But, what happens here that confuses the masses sometimes, is that Triond doesn’t reward the most talented writers with the most money. Triond is NOT a talent scout for writers. Triond IS what YOU MAKE IT. Triond publishes ALL OF US. And if you aren’t the greatest writer but you write 100 articles a day, read and comment on 50, and keep up at that pace, YOU will be more successful (financially) than a top talented writer who just pops in now and then. You are rewarded for hard work here MORE than you are for talent. And, maybe for the 2% here who could actually be making millions writing books, that isn’t the sweetest of deals.

By design, Triond rewards ”go getters” most of all. And, if you believe that to be unfair or not in keeping with what “should” be happening here, Triond is NOT the right place for you. Rather than attempt to change the Triond “wheel” with complaints of hypocrisy and unjust policies, perhaps it’s important to remember that Triond holds no prisoners here. You are free to go.

A writer’s life is determined in SO MANY WAYS by the reader. How many readers would I have if Triond wasn’t here? (don’t need more than a hand to count) How many would YOU have?

And, even if people are commenting or reading my stuff just because I did the same for them, that’s ok with me. To expect more than that is expecting more from Triond than I do from life outside of Triond, and THAT is an unfair burden to place on this site.

If you don’t feel thankful to be here, you’re in the wrong place. For those of us who DO feel thankful, you are a reminder of what a drain negative energy can be even on the most positive of experiences.

Exactly! There are so many complaints in the forum from people who imagine that Triond has unfairly censored their work or taken financial advantage of them. Triond owns this site, and it is their perogative to publish what they want. We are not employees of Triond, and they have no obligation to pay what publishers would pay professional writers. The fact that they accept the drivel that I submit and pay me a couple of bucks a month is amazing to me.

I think you are BOTH good writers. And, the real point is that making a living as a writer even when you are good, is hard to do.

I guess I just wish people would take what serves them here and accept that there are limits on what Triond can do to make them rich or compensate the best writers the most.

And, as far as the people who feel that Triond has taken advantage of them…most are referring to a judgement call. Triond wouldn’t be here if it was ripping people off. Too many are here for that to have no been exposed in a glaring way.

We all get frustrated that we can’t do what we love and leave our day job behind…all wish we had talent that equated to money. This is a chance for exposure. Those are not easy to find or common.

Thanks for reading miraj and karen!

Very well said. it\\\’s hard work and we do it because we want to write. It\\\’s the icing on the cake to actualy have people read it and comment. Of course, we enjoy the money and would gladly earn more if possible but we are realistic and know it will never happen on Triond. We read, comment and write anyway because we love it.

Thanks for reading papaleng and Ruby.

Triond holds no prisoners! If it doesn’t meet expectations, there is the freedom to move on to search for a better fit.

Negative energy can really be a drain both to carry and to be close to.

I’m new on Triond, I’m wondering what do you meant by “And if you aren’t the greatest writer but you write 100 articles a day, read and comment on 50″
