A description of my initial few days submitting written articles to Triond.com.

I have recently starting submitting articles to Triond and can see how it can become very addictive. I was quite unaware of the etiquette of the site and after a few google searches I have discovered articles which have highlighted a few unwritten rules which will help any “newbies” in their quest for success…
I initially found the Triond interface quite perplexing and just presumed that sending requests willy-nilly to people was the way to build up my friends and subsequently improve my chances of having my stuff read. I was wrong! Commenting on articles you have enjoyed and then requesting someone’s friendship is definitely a more polite and agreeable way to go about things. Thanks to anyone who has accepted my friendship in spite of my freestyle adding and please excuse my initial ignorance!
It is vitally important to integrate yourself into the Triond community if you wish for your articles to be read or your photos to be seen. I’m hoping I can gradually do this myself!
When leaving comments it is generally frowned upon to link your articles, it is a very cheap way to publicise your work and will probably annoy the person whose article you have left the comment.
Using other social networking sites such as facebook and myspace can be a better way to advertise your published content amongst your friends but they may get bored with you if you are constantly sending them links read!
I have uploaded a number of articles I have written on Indian cuisine and although I have only made $0.02 so far in my third day, it was two articles I uploaded on this subject that earned me my $0.02, through unique web searches. From this I can deduce that writing on specialist subjects can be a good idea, in that the more unique the topic the more likely you will appear on the first page of a search engine, provided you have some good keywords. Saying this, specialist subjects probably won’t bring you in much money, just guarantee a few cents here and there through people using search engines.
Writing about Triond itself also seems to be very popular and gets you read by more people (hence this article), as does top 10 lists and views on things which are currently popular.
After stumbling upon Triond I have quickly found it to be a really cool website which has a lot of potential for me to get things published on the internet and getting the things I have written seen by a wide spectrum of people. Hopefully I can integrate myself into the community gradually and get advice and tips on honing my writing skills too!

I have been writing here on Triond for 7 months now. I have not published a whole lot but I am constantly get great ideas from reading the interesting works posted on triond. I too started off by trying to get people to notice my works in the wrong forum such as a comment reply on someone’s article. I have found that people will notice your material by the quality of the comments you leave on people pages in the categories of similar interest.
Welcome to triond. I added you as a friend. I am looking forward to reading more of your work.

The friend/fan thing has confused me, too! Argh. So do you email a person and request to be their friend? How specifically do you do it? Are you saying you shouldn’t just “add” them? Hmm, that’s what I’ve been doing, but maybe that’s wrong.

I started out adding friends but then many times the friends would write on subjects that I do not have an interest in. Now I just go to the subjects that I like and leave comments on those articles. This is far more enjoyable for me. I can read articles I enjoy and leave comments on them all day long.
One thing I do do is leave a link to one of my articles. That way the writer of the article or someone else reading the article can click on it if they want to.
It is a form of self promotion but so is adding friends. http://www.writinghood.com/online-writing/money-and-the-writing-of-sexy-short-stories-on-triond/
