Comments and “like” buttons. A solution is coming.
I have seen many articles on Triond and their wonderful ways. Author’s have written articles galore on how to be successful and expressing their love for Triond. I can agree; it’s a great place with great people and friends.
Truth is: We make Triond go with ”our” support for one another. We have a stake in making sure those who pass through these Triond pages are encouraged to stay. Yes, we do. As people who love the written word, we need to encourage others who feel the same way.
We see differing personality, character, style, manner or lack of manners, but we embrace them like I have never seen anywhere else so far. We support and encourage them through our touches on ”like” buttons, the comments we leave, buzzing, stumbling upon, linking them, doing tribute articles, leaving a private message and so much more.
I have met some of the world’s greatest and most soul-stirring people here at Triond. We have all seen the jerks pass through, but they are obvious to everyone. Friends even rally to your aide when they show up. We laugh them off and go our merry way. There is just something very different about the “spirit” of Triond people.
We contribute a great deal to each other and Triond: That’s a fact for me. I believe we give the best and we deserve the best. Triond’s success depends on ads; ads depend on viewers; viewers are brought and kept by writer’s. When there are problems facing Triond writer’s, I believe we should go straight to the source for answers. I have read articles where others have and they were able to bring back an answer to the concern.
I have written Triond, asking for an answer to a few issues. The two issues that frustrate me most are two things we all use to encourage others at Triond: The “like” button and “comments”. It is frustrating when you try to hit the ol’ “like” button and it doesn’t work. After all, this is one way to show support and encourage. But, this is not as frustrating as: “Bad security string, comment not posted.” AArgh! That one drives me crazy on so many levels.
Why? I like to spend time giving quality comments to encourage writer’s, and I know you do too. I get a little upset because of the time I am investing that is wasted. There are so many friends you want to support. I want my friends to know I am supporting them. If it won’t take after a few attempts, I copy it and send it to the writer in private message: A detour of sorts while the comments highway is under construction.
I know many of you have experienced the same issues and as frustrating as it is, Triond assures me in their responses thus far, they are aware of the problem and they are working on it. In the meantime, they have suggested refreshing your browser. Further, they thanked me for my patience and understanding on the issues. I am sure they would appreciate yours too.
Triond will answer the call as they have in so many other ways. We continue to count on them, as they count on us. I, like you, want to spend quality time supporting my friends. Don’t let this momentary issue discourage your participation. I am sure they are speedily seeking a solution since I have received several responses from them in one form or another.
Final Note: I have noticed significantly less instances of this since I wrote them:another reason to be optimistic for a permanent solution.
A few positively interesting articles about Triond:

I always copy my comments to my clipboard before hitting the Submit button, just in case it doesn’t work. That way, I don’t lose my long messages.
As long as Triond doesn’t implement a “I Didn’t Like It” button, I’ll be happy.

really good informative and interesting article.
good job.

Nice work mate, touched on some great points.
Whats with you bad security stringthing?
Do you have more then one article/poem open at a time when you get it?
I found that since I open 3 at a time the 1st one I leave a comment on works fine, but the second would have a bad security string when I tried to comment on it, if this is your problem as well then hit the refresh button once you get to the second or third article/poem you have open before you comment and it will work fine.

*Whats with your bad security string thing?
lol, I hate mistakes, although I still make them a lot.
January 19th, 2009 at 5:39 am
yes, I open for the great motion of this artile and—i second too!
January 19th, 2009 at 5:39 am
Good article. I have had so many problems with losing comments that now I copy each one before I submit it. That way I don’t lose it.

Thanks everyone. *Jasin, I have tried that and normally only have one open at a time. Overall, this seems to be something caused on their end, because they did state they were aware of the problem and working on it. I mainly wrote because other people had mentioned their frustration with it, and it was discouraging their participation.

I’m thankful that you’ve written this article. It will be better if we are not having a hard time leaving a comment or clicking the like it button. Thanks
January 19th, 2009 at 6:25 am
Thank you for writing this article. I thought it was just me, and yes, I wrote them and they told me that it was not on there side. I hope to see some improvement soon. I am thinking about throwing in the towel.
January 19th, 2009 at 6:41 am
Great article. I haven’t had much of a problem leaving commits, but I can’t use the I Like It button at all, nor can I post a comment with my Triond credentials.
January 19th, 2009 at 6:51 am
I scream, breath and try again. I do hope they get it sorted, it never used to be a problem. Great info.

For me, the biggest complaint is that if a posted comment is not accepted due to having incorrectly copied the CAPTCHA code, all the text is parsed to include an escape character (” / “) before any apostrophe or quote, so a sentence like:
“Let’s all try our best”
returns as:
/”Let/’s all try our best/”
and if you repeat the process, you get:
//”Let//’s all try our best//”
…and so forth.
I have seen comments with four, five and even SIX levels deep of instances of ‘escape characters’ being used. Think about that… no wait, -let’s SEE what that looks like;
/////”Let/////’s all try our best/////”
-Has anyone else noticed these before? -Sure you have! :-O
This has to do with the character-set emulation not recognizing the ” ‘ ” or maybe seen as a ” ` ” (not the same character folks!) and thus, executes what is called an ‘escape’ to prevent the local machine (”YOUR computer”) from possibly interpreting the character incorrectly. Basically, it is a “…I don’t know what this is but I will show it as-written”
Most (not all) web pages in the western hemisphere are created in charset=iso-8859-1 so that may be part of the problem, if the Triond server is using another charset=iso, it is causing …mild havoc… with computers in the western hemisphere.
As a web page builder I appreciate this fact and understand their problem (to some degree,) and hope also that this can be remedied in some fashion so that we can post comments to articles with minimal interpretive interruption.

The I Like button worked for me on this article
January 19th, 2009 at 7:48 am
Great article AC, Very informative,Thanks.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:09 am
Good thoughts. I hate it when you try to read others posts and give them a positive comment, only to be rejected. I have noticed this a lot more with authspot than any other site, but it drives me crazy. I could spend about 30 minutes reading peoples stuff, but then spend an hour trying to comment. Thanks for keeping triond in the loop of our problems.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:15 am
Great article, my friend.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:17 am
Reading this article was a good use of my time, and I agree with what you’re saying. What personally drives me nuts is the darn 1’s and the l’s – the slight difference between them is annoyingly small and nine times out of ten, I get it wrong!
PS. I forgot to add the grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! So come on Triond, discard the use of the 1 or the l [lower caps L] and give us all a break!
January 19th, 2009 at 9:08 am
Thanks for this. I’m glad you have the energy to keep on it.
January 19th, 2009 at 9:16 am
I have to quote C Jordan, I think… wanted to say just the same!
January 19th, 2009 at 9:52 am
Yes, I also get frustrated when my Darn Fingles mess up typing that code in the little box.
January 19th, 2009 at 9:57 am
Thanks for writing that. At least I know I’m not alone in my frustrations.
January 19th, 2009 at 10:25 am
This is indeed a great article AC. You’ve addressed our issues in such a diplomatic fashion.
I’d like to thank the Stickman for his insight. Stickman, do you suggest I don’t use the apostrophe or quotation marks in my comments? I hate seeing my comments post with all those //// so I usually go through and delete them manually. (I’m a little obsessive…lol)
I also agree with Bick’s comment regarding the use of the 1 and lower cap L (l) in the captcha. That sometimes gets the best of me as well. I think Triond should discontinue the use of either in the captcha.
Again, great article!
January 19th, 2009 at 10:56 am
Nice article.
January 19th, 2009 at 11:05 am
I liked this, and I am really glad you took the time to address it.I have pushed liked it on several occasions since my short time on here, and have been sorely dissapointed for it not to take ,my effort to to support a fellow writer squashed by a faulty button,I will keep trying ,and I know one day it will work as intended .Thanks for your article.
January 19th, 2009 at 11:07 am
very informative artice! It was a great read and I greatly enjoyed it!
January 19th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I’ve never had a problem with the ‘like’ button..once you have clicked it you cannot click it again the same day! However, I have noticed two problems that Stickman mentions.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Dear AC Hamilton III,
Thank you with all my heart for this thoughtful article. I agree, the less time spent with technical difficulties the more time to spend in appreciation of fellow Triond writer’s work.
Also, thank you with all my heart for linking my article to yours. I am humbled and forever thankful.
Limitless blessings to you.
Sincerely,
-Liane Schmidt.

Nice! Many people like this article and so do I!
January 19th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
I hate the i’s and the l’s they drive me mad. Not had any trouble with the like button thankfully!
January 19th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
very informative article. i don’t ahve any trouble with the i like button either.
January 19th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
This has been happening to me all the time now but, it happens more frequently on Authspot for some reason and when I finally have the time to read the 1000 poems in my box, I never can comment.
January 19th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
That bad security string just happened to me 4 times with one article. will be glad to see the changes you say will be coming. good post. You are a valued friend!
January 19th, 2009 at 4:58 pm

January 19th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Very much appreciated, I am quite new here and have experienced these problems as well, but have also experienced a great deal of support and encouragement, these are most appreciated and I am more than willing to offer the same:)… thank you very much
January 19th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Great article!!! :]
January 19th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
It is frusterating when the comment button won’t work after you try it several times. It’s even worse when you can’t go to a site and keep getting an error message. But keep on trying and do the best you can.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Great article. I too hate when I the bad security string when attempting to leave a comment.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Bad security string seems to happen to me only on Authspot. It is frustrating but I too have noticed it less lately. RJ
January 19th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Thanks everyone. You reminded me of a few other quirks that bother me too. lol The “l” or “1″ gets me too. I apprcite all your contributions to this article. I hope it will encourage Triond to move rapidly.

good job chap..
January 20th, 2009 at 12:40 am
You hit the nail on the head, my friend. The like button and comment problems drive my crazy. I e-mail my links to out of town friends. They tell me they usually can’t get a comment to post. Great post. Well done.
PS. This is the second time I posted this. It didn’t work the first time. Were we not just talking about this problem.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

Good job, AC
Thanks,

I absolutely agree with you. About bad string, it’s really frustrating, hope Triond will find solution.
January 21st, 2009 at 3:40 pm
I totally agree with you on the I like button and the comments.
January 21st, 2009 at 6:08 pm
I think that those new sites (skins to be honest) will fix those captchas problems! You don’t need to input captchas in Writinghood and I think that more site will be like that! If you still experiencing thoses bad string problems check out the solution here
