Triond: A Year in Review

Its exactly one year to the day that I stumbled upon online writing website Triond while googling possible writing opportunities for writers starting out. Since that time I have managed to publish 72 articles on a variety of subjects starting out mostly with travel but moving into my favourite subjects, movies and music.

For me Triond wasn’t, and still isn’t, about the money but more about the exposure it provides for writers starting out and the satisfaction you receive once an article has been published.

I have gained many friends within the Triond community who have helped me along the way, providing, for the most part, honest feedback and critiquing of my work. I must mention R J Evans and Rask Balavoine who befriended me from the start sending me private messages of encouragement and how they thought my work had potential. I appreciate that and all that have helped me along the way.

Since joining Triond in April of 2008 I have managed to move ahead in my writing career gaining part time employment as a sports writer with a regional newspaper in New Zealand, winning a short story competition, and am 10,000 words into a novel, hence my lack of Triond articles lately. Triond works.

I thought it appropriate to share with you the articles that have been significant for me in achieving my writing goals and making me a better all round writer in one year of writing for Triond:

First Published Article

The Many Feelings of India

I guess you could say that this was a tester piece for me on using the site Triond. It is a poem that was written about my travels to India and its impact on me. I got very little page views, but then I didn’t know anything about marketing and exposure of work. I was just stoked to see it published.

Highest Page Views

Pulp Fiction: What in the World is in That Briefcase?

I view this as my most successful piece simply because of the fact that it still gets regular exposure, upwards of 100 views a day. My reasoning for this is that this article catches people’s imagination because the subject is one that millions of people want the answer to and believe that this article may answer it. Does it answer the question of “What is in the briefcase?” Only writer/director Quentin Tarantino can tell you that but it sure gets you thinking. Strangely, with over 20,000 views, it never made the hot content top 10.

Most Money Made

Write the Perfect Cover Letter to Accompany Your Resume

This article has made me around fifty dollars since being published in early August of 2008. I think it is an article that people would link to from the advertisements because they want to know more about getting that perfect job and ways to go about it, hence more money for the writer. It was also my first piece to make the hot content top 10.

Most Comments

Triond: You Can be SuccessfulThis was a no brainer when it comes to why people commented on it because Trionder’s wanted to know how Triond helped you to become sussessful. It managed 74 comments mostly from Triond members and I think some of it was due to the fact that it stayed in the hot content list for a number of days allowing lots to view it. It was also my article with the most likes (73).

Longest Article in Hot Content Top 10

Siberian Huskies: Unlocking the Mystery of the Snow DogThis article spent around two weeks in the hot content top 10 and was the longest of any of my articles to do so. Animals were a “hot” topic with readers at the time and this was what I attributed to its time there. Also Huskies are a quite mysterious and intriguing breed of dog which captured people’s imagination.

Favourite Article

Blink-182: Punk to Pop; Rise and Fall

This is to date my favourite article to have written and also, I believe, my most well written. It draws on personal experiences of growing up listening to the band and its influence on my life which I enjoyed reliving. It received little views but again was written for the sheer pleasure.

Bring back the Hot Content to the dashboard Triond! Its what motivates people the most!
