Thinking of writing? Can it possibly supplement the household income? How long does it take? How much do you really earn?
I was (I still am) as anxious as all new writers here at Triond. Questions plague my mind as I type out articles – what articles to write? Will anyone read my articles? Can I make money here at Triond?
I read all the help I could get – not that I really understood the true meaning of it all. There was just so much you can absorb at one time!
The first step I did was to set up my Paypal account – well you’ve read how people wrote a million cheque in anticipation of their success. I wanted my account ready to get my payment from Triond when the time came for pay out.
Then I took the plunge – wrote my article. Yep, I started with one article the first day “My greatest fear: Lizards Dead or Alive“. I waited anxiously to see how many ‘hits’ I would get. The article was published in Authspot. It was very slow going, but I wasn’t about to give up!
The next day I published another two articles “Greed: Money” and “Tips to Help a Picky Eater Eat“. Again, it was really slow. But I was happy to see my ‘Total Views’ slowly add up.
In the meantime, I read what other writers were writing and what topics featured in ‘Hot Content’. Most of what I saw were on computer freewares, free downloads, these were topics that I am completely at a loss.
A few days after reading all the articles here at Triond, and learning how to navigate this site, I found that I could send messages to other Triond writers here! Imagine the joy when I discovered this, so I immediately sent off a couple of messages to some ‘Hot users’ here like Louie Jerome, Francie, Mary J Dressel, Rebecca Ann Grant and a few others. These 4 ladies here need special mention as they were quick to reply and very generous with their time as they tried to explain to me what needed to be done to succeed here at Triond.
I was in a hurry to find out how much I could earn with my articles. By the time Triond was going to pay out on the 15th April, I had already written about 20 articles. My first pay from Triond came exactly on time, paid through paypal with the grand total of $1.08. That was my first payment for the articles I had written here at Triond. It was disappointing where money was concerned, but very fulfilling as a budding writer as you see your ‘Total Views’ add up as the weeks pass.
I continue to write in a variety of topics as I strive to look for a topic that will bring in the crowd. Then recently I wrote “10 Things They Never Teach in School“. Once it was published, within 2 hours, there were more than 100 ‘reads’! I was ecstatic! My first hit (so far my ONLY hit!), it was such an amazing feeling to see the numbers climb for the next few days. And this article made it to the “Hot Content’ pages as well for a few days. This article is still my highest number of ‘Total Views’ at 920 views (May 9 – 19) collecting $1.62 under “Total Earnings”.
I am still not sure how to use Digg and StumbleUpon to their full capability. I am still exploring the use of these two social networking sites. Triond has given a long list of other social networking sites that we can use to bring traffic to our articles here. Time is of the essence, as you need it to learn to use Triond and market your articles to its full potential.
Another thing I have learned here at Triond, more ‘Total Views’ does NOT mean more ‘Total Earnings’. I have articles with the same number of ‘Total Views’ , but ‘Total Earnings’ are NOT the same for example “My greatest fear: Lizards dead or alive” has the same number of ‘Total Views’ as my other article “How to develop good study habits in your child” at 22 views each but the former article is only having a “Total Earning” of $0.03 and the latter $0.08.
To date, I have written 36 articles, and posted 3 photos of cars – specifically Ferrari. Those 3 photos have brought in $0.14 so far after 10 days. My earnings to date is $7.60 after writing here from April 17 to May 19.
I am told it takes about 6 months before we can really see any real income from writing here at Triond. This will depend on each writer as some will write an article that is an instant hit and some others will take a longer time to find their ‘hot’ article. Once you get the great feeling of seeing your articles being read by others and seeing your articles appearing in the “Hot Content” pages, you will strive to be back there again!
Good luck and happy writing.

Thanks for this article, I am feeling my way around after a few days and am delighted at watching my ‘earnings’ growing from 1c to 6c at present, I am not here for the money but for the love of writing and this site allows me that chance, I love also the fact that I can be click happy with my camera and someone appreciates the results (Triond published a couple). I love the fact that I am collecting friends along the way who give great support. I have noticed 3 have added themselves as fans of mine (WOW), do you know please how do I become a fan of others?

A story well told. It echos mine and you are right, the article with the most hits do not necessarily mean more money. Good luck in your writing.

right now, I’m not earning any money that’s why I’m glad you shared your experiences.
Writing about topics that we think is interesting sure is fun and if we also earn from it, that will be a delightful bonus.

Hi deegold
I am glad that Triond decided to let this article be published!! They took almost 3 days before they let it out! I was expecting it to be rejected! Usually Triond published my articles in 24 hours or less! So when this was ’stuck’ under ‘Pending article’ I thought that it was going to be placed under ‘declined content’.
I only share what I am currently earning as when I first joined Triond, there was no forum going on here
But you are right, deegold, it is fun to write here! Great learning experiences too

This article definately made me feel happier. I’m very new to Triond, about two weeks as a matter of fact, and there was just a huge amount of joy when I logged on after three days and saw the magic number $0.02 under total earnings. I didn’t care that it was two piddly cents. This was the first profit I had ever made from writing, and I was ecstatic!! Thank you for providing me with some encouragement!!

Thank you for the great article! I have just started writing here and I am going through the same feelings you mentioned. Wondering what I should write about and if I am doing a good job. I look forward to reading more of your articles and hope I can do as well as you have!

I’ve been hammering out pieces since June 2008. It was very discouraging at first and it still can be. But, through Triond I have made a few friends and that is worth is everything.
Thanks for sharing your experience!

Thanks for the encouragement! I think we all need that at times. I’m pretty new to this site, been here about a month now. Things were very slow at first and didn’t have many views, let alone money. Then I finally wrote an article about the 10 scariest haunted houses in the United States and that has brought in many viewers! It really added to the excitment of being a writer and having your work viewed and appreciated by a lot of people. I’m still not making a whole lot which is fine, but I definitely see a great increase of viewers for my work. It takes awhile, but it’s definitely doable. Keep on encouraging people to not give up when things are slow or seem out of reach of being possible or reality. Thank you!

great article renewed my interest in triond
June 24th, 2009 at 9:00 am
Hi Drake
triond pays us every month, the choice is up to us to take out the money. Here in Singapore, if I take out less then USD50, I will be charged some money, so what I do is I accumulate the amount so that I can withdraw the amount without any charges. Hopes this helps you.
Hi Jake
me too, left Triond for sometime, then get back to it. It’s ok to take a break.
July 16th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
