Tips for Writing a Quality E-Book

Make your dreams of becoming a great writer come true. Learn how to write a great e-book.

Do you have writing aspirations? Have you already written a manuscript but need help taking it to a high level? You will learn how to write a good E-book and hopefully earn an extra income as a writer.

It is a necessity to have strong writing skills. If you have poor writing skills, you will have more trouble selling your material to publishers and buyers. Hone your grammar and layout skills before you start writing your E-book. Read articles or books pertaining to grammar and punctuation. If you do not know how to spell a particular word, use a dictionary or visit dictionary.com.

To prevent creating a document that has some words running off the edges of the pages and to enable readers to successfully print or download your E-book, use good page margins. For example, you should click “View < Ruler” and set the left, right, top and bottom margins at one inch. Another thing you should do to properly format your document is to not insert a hyphen between a word at the end of a line and the word at the beginning of the next line.

The first page should contain the title. Use a title that is exciting and reveals the benefit the reader will reap. For example, if your expertise is investing, your title could say, “Invest the Right Way! Retire Early!” Your first page should also reveal copyright language. Instead of buying a copyright, simply say the book was copyrighted at a particular date.

To help sell your E-book to publishers and buyers, your second page should contain information about you, explain your expertise, discuss the purpose of the E-book and discuss who you are targeting. Insert your photo if possible to humanize yourself and let the reader know you are not trying to hide. Make sure the size of your photo is large enough to enable readers to clearly see your face.

You can adjust the size by clicking the photo and moving a sizing point with your mouse. You can also use the feature box that lets you choose the height and width. Your third page should contain an accurate table of contents. If your E-book contains specific topics, it is a good idea to provide a good index at the back of the book.

As you write your E-book, click “Insert < Page Number” so each page will automatically be numbered. If you want to start a new chapter on the next page and there is plenty of empty space on the current page, please type, “Please go to the next page. Hit the “Page Down” key.”

Your E-book should consist of paragraphs that have up to five or six sentences that are single-spaced. When you finish writing a paragraph, hit “Enter” twice before starting a new paragraph.

Be spontaneous. Always write down any new ideas that come up, even if you are not currently working on your E-book.

Explore different types of material to use for an E-book. If you are an expert at something, devote your book to that area. Use material from your speeches, classes, web site, blog, etc.

Write your E-book thoroughly. If you want to write a short story or novel, work on creating a strong beginning, suspenseful plot and good ending. If you want to cover something you are good at, make sure your book maintains the focus it is supposed to have.

After you finish writing the rough draft for your E-book, proofread it at least twice and correct all errors. Do not sell an E-book or provide an E-book sample through E-mail because it will often look bad to the recipient.

To establish credibility, it is necessary to publish something before writing an E-book. Write articles pertaining to anything you know something about and submit them to article sites. Your articles should stick to one topic and provide depth. A great way to provide depth is to write plenty of information or tips regarding the subject and tell a personal story when possible.

Make your article title and description creative. Write articles you think will attract a wide audience. Include a link to the site where you sell your E-book in the bio box provided for authors by article sites. After writing several articles, combine them into an E-book.

Use free options to promote your E-book. For example, you can register with Idea Marketers or submit articles to them and use their book promotion feature to provide a link to wherever you sell a book or E-book online.

You now know what it takes to become a successful author and write a quality E-book. Start applying what you have learned now!
