I have been reading other authors materials for some time now as well as writing my own, and have come to the conclusion that I need to raise my standards as well as others need to. Yes I look in my back yard and learn by my mistakes. This is why I have decided to suggest something that may help the serious writers or artists.

I have been writing for nearly a year on Triond and have discovered a few home truths about my writing.
Although I have earned a few credits from other writing friends; I often wondered why I wasn’t getting commissioned from some other publishers for my work.
One reason I had to ask myself is that my work may not be as good as I felt it was at the time. I wouldn’t deny that, because I have never been satisfied with the standards I have set myself; I am always looking to improve, that is why I have slowed down.
Another reason was that I may have been in a hurry to make my mark as Triond suggested, to get as much work as I can to increase the readership and to get as many friends or fan as I can. Well I may have quite a few writing friends, but it is the overall World public who read our material and I can’t expect all my friends to read my work when I would be full time reading theirs in return.
Hands up! Those who have had some of their work rejected? I put mine up on a few occasions, but this was mostly for the unsuitable material and work I have rushed through to get the story published. I did argue the case once after reading more explicit material than mine.
However, I feel that Triond could improve further as it has in many ways. This is to further its editorial facilities by guiding some writers to improve their Grammar as they do with their spell checking and enforce that a suitable comprehensive standard is reached for the required publisher.
Although there are many whom want to write and get carried away with the sense that because they write on Triond they are established. They have many great imaginative ideas and great talents that can be used as much as a skilled author, but it takes more than just sitting at the computer and tapping in the letters.

There is the old saying that Ninety Percent of a writer is research, and the other ten is actual writing and editing. This is true with many people who have a hobby for instance and have put a lot of work logging their findings, but unable to write it down in proper English Grammar or their own language.
There are other engines for artist and photographers which also need the same support to bring out the best in their work. I have noticed a few blurred photos and paintings that I just could not comment on as well as some stories.
Unfortunately I have noticed some good writers have disappeared from Triond and left it looking as a Face-book style forum with writers using slang; standards have deteriorated especially in some of the profiles. Although some may call me names for this article, I feel that unless Triond doesn’t facilitate for the decent writer they will lose a lot of credit and publishers will not take Triond seriously.
Triond have a great opportunity to publicise itself as a highly credited search engine for publishers and also to give us writers the breaks and opportunities for some to improve.
Writers who do not wish to improve themselves, can carry on as they wish but will not get published.

Tim,
Excellent article. It seems Triond is continuously changing. Trying to keep up with the changes can get pretty exhaustive. I too have noticed that many good writers have disappeared from Triond. But many of us has chose to stick it out. I have been writing for Triond since June of 2007. I have read many of your articles , and can only see them for what they are, and what they are, is professionally written. Your articles as well as many others here, definitely deserve to be published in print magazines as well as here or any other content site like Triond. Triond has definitely been a learning experience for me as well. I have not been able to publish here as much as I would like because of other obligations But I do see your point quite well. Again, Excellent article, Tim. Keep up the great work.

It seems that Triond will publish anything and if the writer can drive traffic to it, there is money to be made.
I think that a lot of good writers give up because Triond is not about being a good writer, it’s about being a good marketer and knowing how to get traffic. OK, writing well helps but it won’t earn money by itself.
There is a lot of very poor material published and decent writers don’t want to be associated with it. I am only here because I have built up a large portfolio of articles over the years and still earn quite quite well from these. I don’t write as much as I used to.
