Everyone who can be convinced to pick up a good book knows the pleasure of absorbing themselves in another person’s story, whether it be fantasy or fact, but why is this ? Why is it that the black ink and white page can be transformed into a different world? What makes us so keen to keep delving into tales that are really only as deep as the paper it’s printed on? I have a theory, it’s not nice and I wish that I had never realized that it was the reason I spend a lot of my time, reading various books, that are all mainly fantasy.

   When I read I get completely absorbed into the story I can no longer see the words on the page but the story it is telling as is fills my head, I forget the world around me and everything about it and myself. It’s an escape for me and I have realised that I use books sometimes to hide from the world that seems so corrupted  or I at least try to avoid what I have to face, normally it’s not an immediate problem but the future the realisation of what I will have to live like. But with these books I can avoid that and pretend that the world is like the world in the pages which have only been produced by normal people anyway, so I wonder whether I read like this because I think that today’s world is not a nice place to live and that I would rather spend my time in one of those other worlds filled with heroes and magic and different scenes. The general world today is obviously dominated by humans most who have no care for the world they live in etc.

   So I wonder whether we like to read and watch movies and play video games because maybe like me you don’t want to face the world that we have to live in and the best way to avoid it is to pretend we aren’t there but for the time being somewhere else in a world that isn’t ours and things aren’t the same. We don’t have to listen to the news telling how many people have died by the hands of others. Now this is just me speculating, this is how I feel and I know there may be others who have a love for a good story. That this love may just germinate from the hate in this world today.
