Short story written by Edgar Allen Poe.
The pit and the Pendulum
This story is about a man that was accused of a crime that he did not committee. He was falsely accused and was thrown in to this big dark pit. The pit had ledge that would make you all to your death. The people would throw him food that was poisoned that would make him fall asleep. Then the man passes out again and when he wakes up he finds himself tied to a board and a swinging pendulum is slowly coming towards him. So he puts the meat on the ropes and the rats eat through it and he becomes free. The walls start to cave in so he decides to jump into the pit. When he jumps while he is falling someone catches him n reuses him from his death.
I liked this story it was very well thought and made a lot of sense. The intensity of this story made it very enjoyable. His will to live made this story fun to read and see what is going to happen next. This story was well written and showed all types of emotions in it. This story isn’t very relate-able because that doesn’t really happen now days. This story is also interesting because it takes place in another country. Over all I really liked this story and was very fun to read.

One of my favorites. Actually my first encounter with fear from a book standpoint. If you were impressed by that, consider William Mudford’s, The Iron Shroud. I read that it inspired this work. I didn’t like it as well, but the imagery was quite remarkable. Had I read it first, I may feel differently, who knows? I basically like Poe no matter what. Great share. Thank you.
