Comments on your articles can be very incouraging or inspiring, but lately they seem to become hot discussion topics as well.
Whatever you do, you cannot please them all. This also seems true in commenting here on Triond.
I do love to read articles, before commenting. But I do not always have time or inspiration to comment.
What do I do? Just leave a short note that I liked the article?
If I do so, I might be accused of being a spam bot, since many writers do not seem to like that. So I do not like to appear insulting.
Should I write a long comment that is almost an article itself? Well, some do provoke my mind and I occasionally do.
But lately feel a bit confused. Yes, I sometimes start reading an article, but the info does not seem to entertain me and I lose interest half way and I might start reading more shallow.
Should I say that I consider the article boring, while it contains great info and might be useful?
It might just not be written in a style I like, but I am just an individual and sometimes I see comments stating others really enjoyed or loved it.
So I might just click on “I like it” without leaving a comment, or just click an ad.
In the past I might have just given short comments that might not have indicated that I read the article, but lately I found out some writers do not like that.
That is why I try to read what writers state themselves in their opinion on comments. Personally I do not mind short comments like just “Great article”, “Nice share” and things like that, since I dared to make them myself to save time.
Here is what I do:
I try to look at the writer and if I am not sure how his/her point of view, I make no comment, if I do not have the inspiration for it, or something short that shows I have read the article. In some cases, well I do have more to say.
So yes, I understand all points of views, but please forgive me that I might not share all opinions and do not hold it against me that I cannot keep up with hundreds of people trying to please them all.
If I do not comment you, it does not mean I might not have read you. That chance exist, since I became a bit more selective in my reading, due to lack of time, but do understand that people who comment at least take the time and effort to go to your article, no matter what they say.
So your views might grow higher than your comments, since many readers do not comment. But do not blame those who try to comment as much as they can for being spam bots, if they just leave a short note of appreciation, if you cannot proof they are.
See if they write articles and which kind, if people give you short comments, before getting mad and figure out yourself if you might always have the time or the right mood to give more detailed comments on all you read.
It is up to Triond to see who is right and who is violation the rules. So far I have no clue that giving short general comments on articles is spamming or bulking and against the rules.
I feel it is in the best interest of any good publishing site to keep the trolls, spammers and computer writers out, but motivated readers who spend more time on reading than on commenting, should not suffer from writers who claim they are so important that all their articles should be commented personally.
Keep in mind that writers are nowhere without readers. If you want to be read, if you want your views, be glad you have them and do not feel insulted when somebody makes a non insulting comment, even if it indicates (s)he might not have read your article.

I often start reading an article and don’t finish it because it doesn’t hold my attention. We are all different and I have decided I have time to read only those articles that interest me. Not every subject is something I want to read about.

I have the hardest time commenting on poetry. What do you say to the intermost feelings of a person?

I am glad you have spoken up. I am pleased that someone has even taken the time to click on my post, so whatever they say I am grateful for. Well done.

Quite true.
As Christine said–thank you for speaking up. I would add that sometimes I simply don’t have the time to comment on people’s stuff. Not even to leave a short note. You come home from work, make dinner, spend some time with your family–and quite often that may be all the time (and energy) you have that day!

Inna

I don’t mind short comments and sometimes make them myself. I also don’t always comment on articles if I find them boring or not very well written.

I agree sometimes it is hard to come up with a comment.. so what do you do.. and sometimes I come up with a great comment, type it in.. and it doesnt go through anyhow…

I get you, Brenda. And sometimes it gets posted several times, like I had on one of your latest articles about race horses.
