It’s great to be taken back to the feeling of when I first began writing.
I am new to Triond and I am intrigued by some of the writers on this site. I am a published author of 3 books. It has been a struggle for me to say the least. Writing a book is great fun but I am not well trained in the areas of marketing. My great love and need to write has left me discouraged often. I was hanging on by a thread, wondering if writing was just not in God’s plan for my life.
Then one day while surfing the web I came across an article by Liane Schmidt titled Inspiring Independent Artists. Liane’s words were honest and a powerful source of encouragement. They sunk into me like I was a dried out wilderness that just found some water. I realized after reading her article that I lost my love for writing because somewhere along the way I had a very harsh thought about my fellow writers. I am very ashamed about even writing it but I believe understanding the blocks we face in life helps us to also remove them. Here is my harsh thought- I had the perception that other writers were my competition. I was wrong my true heart loves to encourage others. If we have encouraged someone before we all know it feels great to cheer someone even if it is something so simple. We create a big ripple when we choose lift the spirit of another.
I knew I needed to join Triond. I have learned so much in such a short time and have found the young excited writer still is within me. Since joining Triond I have read other articles sharing advice and encouragement to fellow writers. It is great to experience. I want to thank Triond and all you writers out there like Liane Schmidt. You have returned me to my passion and given me a sense of safety.
I have fought the small yet sometimes great loud thunderous voice inside me for years that shouted “You are no good at this” “Who are you kidding you would make more money collecting quarters than writing”
Thanks to all you here at Triond that inspire others to continue on the path of their dreams. You have my attention and recognition. I will always seek to remember the best part of anyone’s dream coming true is in sharing it!
My dream is to write and it’s amazing to realize I am living my dream even as I write this article.
If you are feeling discouraged I encourage you to go read the article titled The Inspiring Independent Artist. It is a great ripple of Hope!
God Bless, All the best and Great Thanks!

I’m so glad I came across this today! I’m new to Triond also, and had been really getting discouraged. My “real” job was as an RN and because of health problems, I had to retire, so decided to do what I’ve always wanted…write. We have this saying in nursing, that nurses eat their young. Kind of like with some writers. No encouraging those just starting because of jealousy, competition, etc. But I’m slowly making friends, reaching out to others, and enjoying the heck out of reading my fellow authors work!! Amazing people we are! : ) I will have to find the article you mentioned and read that also. Can’t thank you enough for writing this, and have a blessed day!

Hi Colleen! I’m glad to hear you no longer look at other writers as competition (unless you’re in a writing competition). I, too, have been inspired by many people here on Triond as I give writing a shot with the hopes of someday getting published. And Liane Schmidt is one of those inspirations.
Constructive criticism is always welcome. Praise makes my day. Most importantly, I get to learn from many wonderful writers and learn with many who are just beginning.

Very cool, Colleen. I gave up my passion of writing because I thought that even though I loved to write so much that no one would want to read what I had to say. Boy was I wrong about that. I too have rekindled my love for writing with this site, and hope to someday publish one of my own books.
