Social Networking for Writers

The new social networking site for writers is now open!

There are many great forums available for writers and authors on the Internet. Whether you are a complete novice or whether you are a published author, these forums help with all aspects of your writing. From help with grammar and punctuation to manuscript reviews and character creation. The majority of these sites are free to register and use which is an added bonus.

I have used many of these sites in the past and still use the odd few today. I feel particularly comfortable at My Writers Circle. There are many professionals on the site and many very experienced writers who are always on hand to help out, give advice and so on. I certainly recommend forums for new writers and experienced writers alike.

However, for writers and authors that want to go that extra step further and want to have their own unique page dedicated to them and their writing they would need to build a web page or website to achieve this. They would maybe have their books listed with links to amazon, or they might have work in progress that they wish to share with others. Or for example they may wish to connect with other writers and link to their page on other sites to begin forming a fan base for their new work of fiction.

All of the above and more can be achieved for free with the new social networking site for writers! Ok, I can here you shouting for the link, but hang on. I’ll tell you a bit about the site first and then give you the link at the end.

Author Space is the new social networking site for writers and authors alike. It’s 100% free to join and use. It’s like any other social networking site where you have your own page. You can add widget boxes and customise it however you like. The beauty of Author Space is that all of the members are writers and authors! As a writer you have the ability to showcase yourself, your writing, your books in print (if you have any),connect with other writers and make friends, contacts and more! Bear in mind though, that Author Space is in it’s first few weeks of life. There are only a handful of members at present but with the continuing support of fellow writers and authors, Author Space is sure to pick up and become a very busy place!

It all starts here, at Author Space. I look forward to seeing you there!

I have have a question. Say I have a book that I am writing in progress, and I want someone that would help me edit it, without leaking it out all over the internet. (I would like to get it published) Is there any sites that would be good to try?

You made it sound interesting enough to check out, and then I realized it’s another Ning site. I’ve joined so many of those and always wound up quitting. The Ning template is clumsy and annoying, and for some reason, all the groups I joined seem to have trouble staying alive. Even the ones with hundreds of members are barely functional. I call it the Ning Curse. Maybe it’s just because there are too many sites already in existence for various groups, but I’ve reached the point where you couldn’t pay me to join a Ning group. On the other hand, for a Digg-type site for writers, I do recommend Wrideo. It’s about freelance and other writing topics, though, not for promoting your fiction, poetry, etc. wrideo.com
