1. Identify the Critical Knowledge base

The first step is to Identify the critical knowledge that is essential for success in your field. For example if you are a freelance writer, you can increase your critical knowledge by learning how to market your articles. You should always lookout for methods or tips which can you increase your store of this knowledge?

2. Create a Critical Knowledge formula

Once you started identifying and acquiring knowledge, you will identify certain approaches which are working for you and some which does not. Try to fine tune the working methodologies so that you can implement it with ease the next time. Determine the specific things you can do to develop the winning edges in your work, which are the most important for productivity and profitability, and how can you improve in these areas. If you are a freelance writer who is writing for a website, winning formulas include submitting your content inDigg and other social networking sites. The question which you should ask yourself is When should i submit in Digg to earn max profit? How should i submit in Digg to earn max profit etc.

3. A Reading plan to improve Critical Knowledge

Critical knowledge can be acquired through different methods. Majority of the people acquire critical knowledge from their own experience or someoneelse’s experience. But another important yet often overlooked method is to acquire critical knowledge through Reading. You will have to develop a reading plan to keep you both current with and ahead of your field. You must schedule regular times each day to upgrade your knowledge. In our example of freelance writer, one should find time to read others article and study their style of writing. Evaluate the pros and cons of their style and most importantly figure out how you can incorporate the good things to your own skill.

4. Attend Courses and Seminars to gain Critical Knowledge in your field

In most of the cases there are lots of courses available to increase your skill set. Most of the people ignore these critical knowledge courses and seminars simply giving the excuse that theydon’t have time. But if you attend seminars and courses conducted by experienced guys it will increase your income many fold. You will get lots of tips on what to do and what not to do. You will also get an idea about the things that can go wrong in your field. Investigate additional courses and seminars you can take to stay on top of your field. You will have to make it a point to enroll in and attend three or four seminars each year. If we take the example of a freelance writer, he/she should look out for seminars on growing trends, new technologies to aid and enhance their writing skills. New buzz in social networking sites where they canpropagate their content etc.

5. Speed Reading will help acquire critical knowledge faster

Sometime back i took a speed reading course which increased my reading speed to 5 times faster than before the course. It still helps me a lot in saving time, grasping the facts quickly and stay focused. I highlyrecommend taking a speed reading course and practice until you can read and remember at least 1,000 words per minute or more. The more the better. There are lots of free e-books available for Speed reading.

6. Follow your Role model and gain Critical knowledge

In any field 90% of the time there will be people who have got tons of experience in the same field as yours. In a office or working environment, it can be your boss or a co-worker. Go to your boss or co-worker and to the most successful people in your field and ask them for advice on what to read and listen to, and what courses to attend. Make sure you follow their advice, and then ask for more recommendations.

7. Find more ways to use wasted time.

85% of the people in US drive their way to work. On an average a person drives 30 minutes a day. You can convert these 30 minutes of your driving time to useful time by listening to Audio books or other Audion seminars. If you want to revise something that you read or to recollect something you have done, try to record that event and play it while you are driving. That way you are  turning your car into a mobile classroom. You will have to listen to educational audio programs as you drive around rather than wasting this precious time. The key is never stop learning.
