Patience and Perseverance: The Keys to Writing on the Internet

Hints and tips for people, old and new, to writing on the internet website Triond.

Even if it was only for a few fleeting moments, one of my internet writing goals was accomplished on August 15th when my article, Write the Perfect Cover Letter to Accompany Your Resume, made the Triond Hot Content List.

Having written for Triond since April 2008, I have come to realise a few key pointers about writing for this company and being successful, albeit for only a mere two to three hours.

Produce Great Writing

Readers of your work, in my experience on Triond, are looking for one of two things: advice or entertainment. Whether you are writing articles on how to give a great speech, reviewing the latest Grand Theft Auto game, or expressing yourself through fiction, people read pieces that grab their attention, and help or entertain. Putting grammatically correct sentences together helps also.

Friends and Mutual Respect

Write a number of works whilst adding other Triond writers to your friends list as you go along. Becoming their fans and commenting on their work shows them that you are genuinely interested in their writing and develops a mutual respect for you. Eventually they will become your fan also. Having friends on Triond and developing writing relationships is essential. Once you and your work are well known by other members, your work will gain more views.

Expose Your Writing

Social book-marking and social networking sites like StumbleUpon and Digg, and Facebook and MySpace expose your work to people from outside of the Triond network. Again, friends on these sites are essential for the sharing of your work and going about gaining friends the way you do on Triond is a good plan to follow. Stumble and Digg others work, and they will do the same for you.

Persevere

It can be easy to get discouraged when some of your best pieces gain very few page views, likes, and comments. This could be due to a number of factors and most likely a lack of the above mentioned keys. So persevere. Keep writing new pieces often, keep viewing and commenting on other peoples work, and …

Be Patient

The keys mentioned above take time to plant, and once planted, your work takes time to sprout, grow tall, and flourish. Most writers don’t become Triond household names over night and those who do usually have all of the founding keys in place before starting to write with Triond. It can be frustrating, but be patient.

Completely agree with you here! Perseverence is the key to success with Triond, I believe. If I hadn’t kept plugging away I would have probably given up after my first month – when I earned less than two dollars… and what you say about befriending other writers is also important, not least for the fact that they can keep you “company” when you are hunched over your machine writing that article that will finally hit the top content!

GREAT ADVICE! I particularly agree with the perseverance and patience law. Some articles make it; some don’t. The key is not to give up…and that applies to anything. Thanks!

It’s definitely been a learning process for me. I take so much time to write certain articles and they never get noticed. I’m just starting to get the hang of it after a month here. I do appreciate the support of all of the top writers. They gave me great advice and in so doing I was able to become a Hot user within a month.

    Great article RJ.

Really great advice. It is easy to get down when you work so hard on something only to get 5 views. But, you are right patience is key and perseverence is required. I wonder how much stumble helps….have you had increase views with it?
