Passive Income: Earn Money While You Eat, Sleep, and Travel: Monetize Your Writing

So you’re not a visual person. Your computer skills are beyond lacking. You barely know how to change the batteries in a camera, much less take a nice looking photo. So what? Can you write? No? I bet you can. Even if you’re no Hemingway, you can still make money writing online. I’ll show you how.

Writing is no longer just for the pros. You don’t need a high priced editor and a book deal. Anyone can make money writing. The key to passive income is multiple streams of money coming in.

When it comes to making money online writing, write what you know. Start by extending your job into your writing. Are you a bored employee stuck in middle management? Write about consuming time at work, how to fix problems quickly, how to save time on your commute to work, etc. Branch out and begin writing about things you’re interested in, hobbies, dreams, travels, finances, and anything that makes you happy or you enjoy.

Writing is the easy part. You won’t make money unless people read it though. You have to promote your writing and constantly. Try to find new sources to show your work too. With the internet you have powerful social networking tools available, and if your article gets popular on one of the big social networking sites, its likely to pop up on the others.

Find smaller blogs that are specialized in one field of expertise. Contact them with a link to your article, many times they will link to it or mention it, boosting your earning.

Writing online is one of the best forms of passive income if you can generate enough content. Online publishing is the best example of set it and forget it. Again the key is numbers, when you start out, having 5 articles may only earn you pocket change or a couple dollars a month. This is where 95% of writers quit, seeing that the time to money ratio is so nominal that it’s almost worth laughing at. Don’t give up here, look at it as a way to improve a skill, not to make money. Priority number one with online writing is content, if the content is good, the money will follow.

Write short articles with small paragraphs. Internet users have a very short attention span and most won’t read an article but skim the headlines and paragraphs, so keep your most enticing details at the beginning of each paragraph. Writing in parts or series is also a great way to stagger your long articles and generate more page views which means more income.

Don’t be discouraged, just keep churning out the writing, 5 articles might make you $2 dollars a month, but what will 50 articles make? or 100? or 500? Consider the long term payouts of having a database of articles which you never touch again, just collect money from.
