Is There an Overabundance of Trolls on Triond?
Negative bloggers have infiltrated our writing community.
After writing on Triond for about 2 weeks now, I have had the pleasure of running into these people from time to time.
You may have just completed a great article that you think will really interest the readers and you publish it for the whole community to see. No sooner do you publish it, a comment appears from a user called Pro, Thisguy, Iam, you are, and Isick. I mean I feel like I’m in English class conjugating verbs. You would think if they were actually intelligent bloggers that they would come up with better “sue do names”.
I understand that when you publish your work for the whole world to see, you are making yourself susceptible to these types of people. You can’t expect the whole community to enjoy your work.
Unfortunately, the worst thing you can do is lash out. I will sometimes get up on my sassy horse and think I know best, but really there’s always someone older and wiser than you are. Always!
Thankfully, we have a wonderful community here at Triond that supports each other and is smart enough to leave comments towards these people that leave no room for argument.
The main problem that I see here is that some writers are more sensitive than others. They may feel the need to defend themselves about the vulgarities in the comment. I mean, who wouldn’t be affected if someone called your work a waste of time, you lie, you’re stupid, you’re a b*#@h, etc.
If I wanted to play on the playground, I would go back to Kindergarten!
In most forums or blogging sites, it is a requirement that the person commenting have published at least 5 blogs before they can comment on others works. It really is a shame that anyone can join Triond with the intent of blasting other writers without ever publishing a single article themselves.
The fact of the matter is that when we choose to display are works on the internet; we have to understand that millions of people from around the globe are surfing as well. The wonderful aspect of this is that we all have different norms and social rules that regulate our daily lives. That is what differentiates us from each other. Some may have experienced higher education and can communicate that within our articles; others may have been educated in a home where there was no structure and no money to educate them on what is acceptable in a certain social stature.
Either way, I will continue to write articles that provoke thought and controversy to stimulate the brain and further my education on the attitudes and environments that drive these people, “Trolls”, to bring others down to make themselves feel more important.
As always, please leave comments. Trolls are welcome to voice their opinions as well. As long as you are able to convey your opinion in an intelligent manor without curse words, I will listen. If not, I will just assume that your social upbringing is well below the norms of society.

Lauren – I’m only new to the Triond community and you’ve been one of the most welcoming people! If anyone is so petty that they have to try to drag someone down who is as passionate about writing, as intelligent and NICE as you, then troll is not a strong enough word!
Fortunately my mum raised me well so I will spare you some potty mouthed cussing to express my thoughts – but really people – get over it!!!!!

Once people gain the anonymity of the internet they feel they have the right to say whatever they want, which usually means negative feedback and criticism. It is a sad thing that all of us have to get used to it, but it is true. Great article and thank you for the welcoming comments on my own article!

Interesting article, Lauren. If anyone has been writing for any length of time on the Internet, then the have probably run across these types of people that you are speaking about in your article. I usually just delete all really foul mouth comments, even if they sign off with “Good article or something along those lines”, because if I allow them to stay, then others will be drawn to continue the negativity.

I have only written a few articles for Triond, but have read many. I am glad to see that others are also concerned about the negative comments.

That is so true Key. Just recently, on my Extra Terrestrials article someone caught some misspelling of 2 words. I admit, on occasion, spell check does miss some of these words, and Vista program especially. I try to read over everything over and over again but when you’re writing at 1am things just happen. I mean, to say my article has no merit because of something that small is stupid. If it was a more prevalent article on MSN or Yahoo than maybe I would be more concerned.

I think you have made a great point here . I am new and thankfuly I have not been blasted yet …I think we are all here for the same reasons to write and share . I personaly would never blast an article if I do not like it or think it is with out merit then I would just not recomend it to anyone. Those people who feel the need to judge others and put them down so they feel special will always be around . Maybe we all need to follow this rule Love everyone..JUDGE no one ! Keep writing and never let them knock you down .

That was very well put Criss. It’s a tough crowd in here sometimes. You try your best to put out the best material and someone with a vocabulary of only curse words steps in to shut you down. It’s hard not to feel anything.

these negitive coments dont register when their just abussive to me i would rather not say a single word than abuse someone who is only putting their opinion or telling their story cos i was taught if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all i guess thats a pretty good way of doing things on the net in general and for me it is one of my own little unwritten rules that goes without question for me

I agree infernoman. Now that I have been a member here for over a month. Wow, has it been that long already? I either let it go or if it’s really nasty or obscene, I just delete it. There are ways to get your point across without using curse words.

I hope I never run into any of these nasty trolls although I’ve seen their work on other’s articles. I think it’s probably just stupid kids with nothing better to do. Ignore them, they’re beneath you. Can you delete the messages?

Lovely article and well observed.
Actually, I wouldn’t delete these comments. If you let them run on, they take on a life of their own and become excruciatingly funny. And the joke is not on the author of the article.

I too am angry with the non published, I write nothing Triond invader. I noted the pro and ‘it’s ‘ blog list on one of your articles …spammer is the terminology I would give them Trolls are cute LOL LOL
