Is Self Publishing Worth It

A warning about self publishing.

Quite a number of people have published their own books through self publishers and yet for some reason it never pays off in the end. I’m one of the unlucky ones that have a few books under his wings so to speak but is self publishing really worth the effort. In my case I say it isn’t, when you think about it each and every self publisher that are corrupted and even the good ones that seem Ilgit  are really after one thing, every one of them want your money.

Mine was with two different self publishing house, the first publishing house went back down into the United States leaving their Canadian clients in the lurch then I went with Eloquent Books which seems to know what they are doing. Eloquent Books states right off that they are not self publishers that they are a traditional publishing house, but when ever I ask for a review with any of the fantasy magazines out there in the world, tell me that they won’t do one since they are a  self publishing house.

I jump on the band wagon and tell them that Eloquent Books isn’t a self publishing company that they are traditional publisher all the way, since they think like one.

Let me tell you that I have been digging up a few things about eloquent Books and why they do some of the horrible things, that some people claim they do. They make sure that each and every author has to pull their own weight of which we do, we have to look around for contests, for arranging our own guest appearance to marketing our own books. It’s not just reviews, it’s every thing else in between.

One of the interesting things about publishing is that none of the real publishers seem interested in people like us. We write our own books and make up our own worlds to explore and I have this funny feeling that people like me have it all backwards.

Many years ago I wrote to one of the authors that was writing some of the Star Wars books, and I recall what he said in the letter since I was a fan of his that if you truly want to write and get to know you need to start with an agency firm and sign up with the right one. Once you’ve done that send in your work and they will represent you to a publisher, once that publisher has you either if they do on going series like Star Trek or Star Wars.

For me I  want to get noticed for once and the only way I can get the attention that I deserve is to write for a real publishing house and not some make up publishing house that seems to good. You see writing is my passion and what ever trails I have to go through, I will meet head on. I thrive on challenges, to go beyond my own limitations.

I guess we do things the wrong way, it’s not the best thing to do as we make up our own worlds. For those that seek to be published authors, beware of self publishing it’s the wrong way to go. Write and contribute to either Star Trek, Star Wars or any fantasy book series that will take you.It really can be anything your heart truly wants, just contribute for a few years until you get on your feet then think of your own worlds.

I have been working on my third book in my fantasy series so far but right after I’m finished with that I intend to seek to  contribute to a gene that I truly love. Science fiction.

A writer has to created worlds to get ahead in life but seek my warning before you jump into shark in feasted waters, is self publishing for you or isn’t it.
