Methods and tools to drive traffic to your blog site.

Blogging and writing content on the Internet is fun. It is a good way to meet new people and exchange new ideas. It’s also a way to make money but in order to make money you are going to have to get traffic to your blog.
As I said in my article “Increasing Internet Revenue” on Triond (yes, that’s a plug), writing a good headline is the key to getting readers to your blog. What they see in the two seconds that they glance at your headline on a search page, will either convince them to take a look at your site or keep on scrolling down the page.
You need to put one or two key words that will draw their attention to you. Make sure, however, that the key words actually have something to do with what you wrote about. For instance don’t put the word money in your headline when your article has nothing to do with money. In that case many searchers will make a mental note that your site is a scam and make sure that they pass you by the next time they see your site.
Or even worse they may write an article about you, warning people to watch out for your blog address. In this case, you accomplished just the opposite of what you set out to do. Instead of drawing traffic, you steered it away from you.
There’s one lesson I learned as a small business owner and that is , once you loose a customer they are usually gone for good. So be honest in your advertising (headline). You will come out better in the end.
What are tags?
Tags are the key words that you put at the end of your article or content like “money” or “taxes.”
What do tags do?
They cause websites to appear in a search engine when that particular word or phrase is keyed in a search. Websites that have the word in the title of their site usually appear first, then others that have the word or phrase in the content show up next and of course all of this is based on your search ranking with the individual search engine.
The more page views that you get the higher your ranking will be. I was ranked number four on one search. I am now down to number six which is still pretty good.
How many tags should you use? As many as you can think of that are relevant to your site. In other words, tag it to death. It is not going to hurt anything to put a lot of tags on your articles. I usually try to come up with at least ten. Sometimes you can. Sometimes you can’t but you do need to try.
Think of tags as roads that lead to your blog or content site. The more roads that you have coming to you the more traffic you will have.
One road can only hold so much traffic.
Good tags are as good as a good headline. As a matter of fact, they are better. As I just said, tags can open up a number of avenues to your site but you only have one headline. So if you are depending just on your headline, it better be a doozy.
Tag it, tag it and tag it some more. Make all roads lead to your site.

Splendid, splendid, splendid: everything you say is so true. This is a well thought out article with some on the money advice. I have two pieces on Triond that I’m sure the titles alone brought in readers: Girls Gone Wild and 10 Great Flash Fiction Ideas or http://www.authsport.com/Short-Stories/Girls-Gone-Wild.699307 and http://www.writinghood.com/writing/10-great-flash-fiction-ideas/
I still have to work on my tags, especially after you’ve pointed out how important they are.
