Goal setting in life is very important. It is not what should be undermined if one is seriously thinking of achieving anything meaningful in life. Setting goals is what motivates us to attain certain height in an endeavour. It is like a driven force that propels us into action. There is this saying by Chief Japheth Ifeadi when he thought me English Language in my secondary school days that “When you aim at the tree top, you may leave the ground but when you aim at the sky, you should at least get to the tree top.” This saying has helped me to work hard then in school. This has been helping me and it can help you too.
I registered for Triond 11th May 2011 but never set a target for myself. Even in the event of challenges from Triond to inspire more quality and quantity writing, I have never taken it seriously. However I have come to discover that setting personal goals is very important in one’s life. Anyone who is aiming for greatness but has no target will end a failure in life.
Robin Sharma posted on his page on facebook and twitter on 5th December, 2011 that “Purpose is the most powerful motivator.” To this I commented – “That is the essence of setting goals.” Goal setting in life is very important.
This word of Chief Ifeadi is a kind of goal setting. What do you want to become in life? What do you want to achieve? What do you want to leave for posterity? All these will make you set your life goals and maintain a legacy. Goal setting makes us have focus. It propels us into action. It motivates us to work even harder than anticipated. It makes us take and overcome challenges that might stand on our way to achieving success.
Glenn Bland noted that “goals and plans take the worry out of living.” There are many things defined goal-setting can do for us. Robin Sharma proffered three benefits of goal-setting. In the first place, “it restores a sense of focus in your world, a world that has become complicated by too many options.” Again, “it keeps you alert to your responsibilities” and finally “clearly defined goals commit you to a course of action. They give you the inspiration to act on your priorities and make things happen in your life rather than wait for opportunities to land on your laps which rarely happens.”
So learn today to set big goals for yourself. Setting goals that will motivate you to greatness is the best boost to your commitment to life and thus you will find fulfillment. You are as rich as your dreams.
Personally, I have decided to write and publish at least one article per day for the whole year whether there is promo from Triond or not. These articles must of course be articles that are of quality and standard. It must be articles that should be at least two pages of not less than 500 words. With this I should be able to write at least 20 to 25 in a month. So far, I have written 17 articles in 10 days and hopefully, I intend to meet my target of 365 articles by December 31st 2012. By the grace of God, I hope to end the year by writing an article to say if I met my target or not.
I intend to achieve this set target by writing articles ahead. I intend to write and keep even though I could not publish it at that moment. I can recall what I wrote here about the qualities of a good writer. You must be pro-active, versatile and ingenuity. As ideas come, a good writer should take note of them immediately or he will lose them. Being always with notebook and pen will help me a lot in garnering ideas for writing.
I expect everyone here to set a target of what to achieve. Let it not be that only when Triond set a challenge for us that we will do something. Good luck friends in Triond in 2012. I wish you all the best. Happy writing and publishing in Triond this year.
