How to Write an E-Book

Writing an e-book can be quite interesting and a true learning experience. Herein, I show you how I write e-books and how you may apply this instruction in writing your own e-books.

The first step is to go to the Internet and search articles associated with your topic.  For instance, if my topic is Beginning SEO I perform a Google search “Beginning SEO” and then I browse through the articles.  From the articles I find I construct a table of contents.  Assure you keep the articles coordinate with the table of contents.

I make copies of the articles and then when I go to write, I use the concepts or ideas from the articles to begin my own written theory or understanding of the content presented.  Understand I do not rewrite the article.  I just use the concepts and ideas presented in the article to get the “ball rolling.”  In this way I do not have to worry about what to say next because conceptually I follow the pattern of ideas presented in the articles.

I always begin a chapter by stating on paper the time I began and the page number that way I can track my daily progress as far as composition.  Generally, in this way I am able to write 17 pages per day which is very good.  If you can write this many pages or shoot for more and all pages are in your own words and well-composed I’d say you are an extremely good writer.

After composing a certain number of pages I type my chapters into word.  I do not struggle to get the entire thing written before I begin typing.  As I type I continually spell-check and save the document.  In this way your work habits remain consistent and you will stay alert.

Although I’ve constructed the TOC draft from the articles I’ve pulled, I wait to type the final TOC until the last minute using the table of contents as merely an outline of which to work.  When you initially pull your research make sure to construct a Table of Contents correspondent to the articles you pull and keep everything in order.

If you are required to work on a 100 page eBook and are running over at this point you may scale down on some of the content.  Here is where you may need to make some modifications to your table of contents.  I find I have some redundancy as far as chapter titles from my initial draft at this point so I suggest again you construct your TOC at the tail end or very end of your eBook project.

When you have finalized everything and you like how things read then go ahead and head to the top of your word file hit insert and place your page numbers within your document.  From a formal standpoint page one should never be numbered.  This is incorrect.  Where there is a check mark to number page one remove it and center all of your numbering.

Next I scan through the document and check where all page numbers are located relative to chapter.  I place the page numbers after the chapter titles very last.  Also, if your page does not end with a specific sentence rather the sentence continues onto the next page correct this when you are checking through your copy.  Your page should always end with the completion of a sentence.

The first page should have the heading centered and then you should go about half way down and place By:  This is where the name of the author will go or if you are ghostwriting the one who will buy all of the rights to the book you are composing.

You do not necessarily have to know about the subject you are writing just possess a strong interest and make sure there are plenty of good places to go for material on the Internet.  Not only will you be writing a wonderful book you will be learning at the same time yourself.
