I have been posting on Triond for just under 2 months (yes, I’m very much a newbie) and am trying to learn which type of articles are really drawing people in. With nearly 50 articles submitted, here’s an analysis of what topics are getting the most page views for me.
Humor and Pets. In fact, I’ve gotten the most views & most money from articles that were about BOTH humor and pets. One funny cat article earned me nearly $10 in less than a week! Another funny cat story earned me about $7 in just 10 days. I think this is the exception to the rule, as most other articles are seeing quite a bit less action. Two other humorous animal stories I’ve written has gotten me over 100 views each in a matter of 2-5 days.
Weight loss. I’ve written a few articles on diet and exercise that are modest wage-earners for me… with each having gotten me about 100 viewers since they were posted 3 weeks ago, and having earned me about 30 cents each.
Photos. But I don’t consider this a problem, as these are quick & easy to post… even though I’m only getting a total of 3-7 hits on each photo.
Educational. Advice on saving money, warning to a scam, how to get free publicity for a charity event… all these articles have proved the least effective for me. At first this surprised me. They are chocked full of useful information. But I think I see what the problem is – they’re boring… and they have boring titles.
Which leaves me with the biggest thing I have learned in my short time here on Triond – Give your articles great titles! Make them appropriate to your topic, but for heaven’s sake… make them interesting. It’s no good to spend lots of time on an article that no one will read.
For example, an article on how to clean and organize your home could be labeled “Spring Cleaning Tips.” But it could also be called “Die, Dust Bunny, Die.” Have fun with your title. Get my attention. Even as I write this I’m questioning the title to this article. I think it’d get me to stop and click on it… I guess I’ll have to wait and see what kind of viewer count this article gets me to know for sure.
Happy writing.

Well, I certainly agree that titles are important. It’s the first thing a reader sees. I need to work a lot more on my titles.

Nice article. I seem to have similar experience – my cat articles are doing well, so are the relationship ones. And I had one really great spike of visitors with a gaming article.
