Hot Content: Triond’s Little Secret

Here is my two cents worth (which is probably what this article will earn in a year), on the Triond “Hot Content and Hot Users List.” It all seems to be a mystery.

As some of you may (or may not) know, I have been on Triond since January of 2007. Since that time I have submitted what I feel to be a fair amont of material. I have a number of articles on various subjects, although not much poetry. I am also a piano/keyboard player (hence my penname “keyboardologist”), and I have quite a few of my compositions- or decompositions on Triond’s audio site: Loudio.com.

Since I have started  at Triond, it has been my experience, that music and videos don’t get too much attention. This may be because there is a LOT of trash to go through to get to something of any quality. (There are a few good musicians/songs, however). I have to mention Fegger while I am at it, as he seems to have a gift for both music  AND writing. I like to think I am a pretty good musician (I played proffessionally for 10 years), and a marginal writer.

Some Triond History

This is for you Triond newbies. Early on, Triond had a different layout. Almost everyone was a “hot user” (and I don’t mean good looking). Also, the home page listed recently published content without having to hit explore. Generally, the “Hot Content” list had some informative articles, and seemed to be a little better than the fifth grade writing class. Sadly, Triond seems to have taken a turn. I can’t seem to remember the title, but about two weeks ago, there was an article that was  a little longer than a paragraph,  on  some ridiculous topic (If you would even call it a topic), and it was in the top 10 on the list!

The fifth grade class has arrived! (But seriously), there seems to be a younger demographic taking hold of Triond, so you get stuff like: “The Difference Between Dogs and Cats” as a bestseller. And of course, the trolls in the comment sections (but trolls are probably to be expected with any site), leaving childish remarks, or using the comment section for a chat room.

I don’t  think the “powers that be” at Triond even know  the reason (s) why some of the “Hot Content” becomes “hot.” For all we know, it’s probably a computer generated algorithm that determines your content status. For a while there, any titles with lists (10 ways to do, 5 reasons for this, ect.) were RED Hot. I actually did an experiment with this theory by submitting this article:

http://writinghood.com/online-writing/eight-pieces-of-really-hot-content/

But I didn’t make the list, but  I submittted this:

http://www.loudio.com/Music/Instrumental/Dracula-Meets-Pink-Floyd.87040

(Which I think is one of my lesser quality works), and I was up to 700+ views in the first 10 minutes! I have had people ask me why, but I have NO CLUE. I don’t reallly do much promotion, I don’t belong to any social networking sites, and normally my music gets very little (if any) attention. At 1271 views, I got 4 cents! (This is a true story).  So, who really knows the Triond secret formula? (I think it might be an “Ancient Chinese Secret”).

    Keyboardologist.

I’ve only been writing for Triond for a couple months. I don’t have many articles.

I find it hilarious that I am on the “Hot User” list. My writing is not IMO the best. I am just honing my skill and finding a voice. I feel almost bad that some of the better and more prolific writers are off the hot user list.

    So…yeah…it’s a mystery.

I definitely don’t know the secret formula. I have a few articles (which I consider to be above average), but mostly I write poetry (which I think is quite good). I have maybe 40 people on my friends/fans list. I think that may be my “problem” as far as Hot Content goes. I think you need to have a bazillion (made-up word) friends who will view your work immediately after it’s posted, regardless of whether it’s worth reading.

Anyway… that’s my rant for today. Thanks for posting this article. :)

Thanks for the comments. I have a large number of fans, but no one in my friends list. I really think it’s like playing the lottery.

Thanks for this honest article and its quite sad to know that your audio file at 1271 views only got 4 cents. I hope Triond admin would reveal the formula and not leaving everybody’s guessing. I Being transparent to writers, this will motivate them to work hard to be on the list.
