If there is one thing that keeps going on and on in my mind while I’m writing, it’s making people feel what my characters are feeling.
Before one becomes a fiction writer, each of us must learn how to read. We read fiction novels and short stories. In each story there is a character that catches your eye, the characters that makes your heart pump with excitement. You see the kind of characters that you can sympathize with, the kind of characters that you find yourself to be like and the characters that inspires you to become who you are.
You relate with these characters because you feel their emotions as you read more and more about them. You feel their vibes, you understand their weaknesses and you find the kind of strength they possess that people can’t see. It’s a wonderful experience for the reader to be able to feel with the characters. It’s an honor for a writer to find readers being able to understand the weakness and the strength that each character possesses.
That happened to me once when I was a little girl when I was so into a book that I finished all 200 pages in one day. I could relate to the character because he was a little boy and my heart pumped with excitement because I knew his feelings. After that I decided to be a writer, the kind to write for children’s books and young adult’s.
When I made that decision, the one thing that would make me so proud of being one is making the people feel what my characters are going through. I wanted to write as though my characters are alive in them. My goal in writing had always been just that. I mean, anyone can write and create the greatest story in the whole world. They can create twists and turns and excitement.
Creating a best-seller is the greatest recognition that you can ever have. But the greatest honor that a writer can ever have is one book. It’s a special book with special characters written for a thankful bunch.
Words and stories can have the greatest impact on a person’s life. A writer is special if he could touch the heart of one person and make a difference in that person’s life.
