From Cents to Dollars

Many writers complain that they merely receive cents in articles they published online. It is possible, however, to change this situation with diligence and stroke of luck.

Reason for Writing

When I entered Triond, all I had in mind was just to be able to have a continuous, passive source of income to pay my monthly broadband bills. But all I could get was just a little more than a dollar per month. This went on for several months. Income comes in trickles of cents, never a dollar a day in sight.

Indeed, if each article could earn just a cent or two a day, I would really never be able to meet my objective with so few articles on the line.

The Numbers Game

It occurred to me that I have so very few articles compared to my colleagues at Triond. Their articles, I discovered, were in thousands! For example, I tried to see the number of articles written by one of Triond’s hot users Kristie Leong, they count a whooping 2,809! Compare that with mine which is only 68 articles (I’m humbled).

If we just simply multiply the values given at 1 cent income per day, Dr. Leong’s article will earn something like $28.01 a day while I would earn a mere 0.68 a day. But I am not earning just 0.68 a day. At this point, the average I earned the past two weeks is more than a dollar a day (with Adsense integration)!

Just multiply this value to the number of articles of Dr. Leong and you will get an idea how much a Triond writer could earn with so many articles posted. But of course, articles do not earn just a few cents a day. One of my articles earns roughly 60 cents a day. Imagine if I could have just a hundred of this.

Numbers Do Matter

So one of the major points that we should bear in mind in writing will be to post as many articles as we can, without sacrificing content. Even a little post like this can make a difference. There’s no instant glory.

“A little article per day, can keep the cent away”.
