I have personally had a lot of trouble coming up with article ideas. I’ve made a list of how I came up with ideas myself and, hopefully, how others can come up with ideas as well.
- Look at current events that you hear about in everyday life, the kind of things that people would Google or at least click on if the opportunity was presented. A perfect example would be Michael Jackson (R.I.P.), as after he died there was a ridiculous amount of news coverage devoted to him.
- Controversial issues are also a good way to come up with article ideas, because everyone has an opinion on them, everyone has an interest in them, and there are plenty of options. I could write an entire page full of examples of controversial issues, but a few are cloning, abortion, and euthanization.
- If you know a lot about something, write about that, in any way possible. For example, if I was an auto mechanic and wanted to write an article, I would have the most success in writing an article about cars.
- When all else fails, write a “How-to” or “Self-Help” type of article. If you have ever been to a book store, you have probably seen that there is an entire section devoted entirely to self-help type books. Everyone is looking for ways to better themselves, so this type of writing does very well, despite the fact that very rarely does a self-help book actually work, as that would require the reader to actually use the information that they have been given. and example of “how-to” articles would be “how to improve your handwriting”, or “ways to come up with article ideas”.
I hope that I have helped you in some way to overcome the writer’s block that everyone experiences at some point, and wish you the best of luck in continuing to write.
