Forumnators Leave a Lot to be Desired

How do you spell deteriorate? T-R-I-O-N-D F-O-R-U-M.

How long does it take for a community to deteriorate?  In the real world, a few decades.  In the digital world, a few months.

In recent years, serious Triond users requested a forum to share ideas and build community.  In true Triond fashion, management implemented a good idea for the benefit of their producers.  In January of this year the Triond Forum went live.

Users responded joyfully, praising Triond for another responsive enhancement to the popular online writing community.  Threads popped up to exchange creative writing skills, ways to overcome writer’s block, and tips on short story character development or poetry construction.  New users were welcomed and genuine friendships developed.

But like a satellite that has gone off course, the Triond Forum has lost its appeal for many Triond users.  What went wrong?  The Triond ForumNators.

The ForumNators crushed the usefulness of the Triond Forum.  The Forum went from “live” to “dead” over the course of months.  A high value asset that added meaning now has become a Triond liability.  Does anyone care?

I’ve been told to give up on the Forum, to focus on publishing.  That sounds like good advice.  Who wants to get cussed out and verbally abused for sharing an opinion?

These ForumNators think only of themselves.  They show little interest in writing, blogging, publishing, or even in making a little extra cash.  Instead, they slander, poke fun at, misuse the English language, and generally denigrate anyone who stands for decency, justice, and the Triond Way.

In typical school house fashion, the waywardness of a few ruin it for everyone.  How do you spell deteriorate?  T-R-I-O-N-D F-O-R-U-M.

It’s time for Triond to provide a genuine report abuse tool, like every other legitimate online community.  A failure to protect genuine producers will denigrate the Triond brand, result in a loss of high quality producers, and ultimately severely hamper the bottom line.

Triond is not a place to talk about body parts.  But indecent exposure is ruling the day in the Triond Forum.

Thanks, Brian, for standing up for decency and basic manners. There is a group of adults, presuming to be professional writers, who behave like schoolyard bullies defending their turf. When anyone dares to point out the foul language and the personal attacks, they react by pouring out the vilest verbal filth they can think of, verbally thumbing their noses and flaunting their freedom to write whatever they want in an unmoderated forum.

I hate the idea of moderators, and think some of the wealth of the forum will be lost with their advent. But I have to agree that the list of threads to choose from over the past few months is woefully lacking in appeal.

Brian I agree with you completely! I used to go in once in awhile hoping to either help out a newbie or talk about the latest happening in our writers world but…I have nit been there for along time because of exactly what you are talking about. A handful are always there and always talking crap with nothing to do with writing or they are fighting over religion and calling someone something bad and obscene. So I guess I have gone back to before the forum opened and make friends the old fashion way with mail. Sometimes people do not understand what they do to hurt and affect others in their process of insanity!

Dont let it bother you, as long as people get angry those who cause problems win.

Thanks for reading and sharing your perspectives. I can see that a moderator takes away from some freedom and initiative – we are after all adults (except for the many teens on our site). My question/concern is more related to what kind of a community does Triond want to foster? Cooperative/professional/likeable or detached/unprofessional/hateful. I’m not so much angry as I am wondering whether I want to be a part of a community that promotes hate and unprofessionalism. Granted, it is only an Internet community, and not a key part of my life. Still, I’m about creating value and worth not kicking other people around the desktop.

Brian, I totally agree with you! The forum is nothing more than a playground with foul mouth and misbehaved children running a-muck. The content of some of the threads have been down right disgusting. They are constantly sputtering their right to freedom of speech and to say whatever they want but, in all fairness, they do not practice what they preach(sputter). These people often attack with a full on verbal assault when they are confronted by clear and intelligent minds, often proving that they are lacking in intelligence, respect, and any sense of dignity. This behavior puts Triond in a bad light.
