Five Important Points on Which to Focus on Writing Sites

Points to consider when joining a writer’s web-site.

  1. Without a doubt, payment is the most discussed complaint that on-line writers have. Of course, we all want to receive pay for our efforts. However, each piece that we contribute must be edited, spell-checked and re-arranged, usually a number of times, before it is truly professionally presentable. The better the article is prepared, the better the pay will be.
  2. Although we don’t want our work censured, it is always a good idea to consider the target for which we are writing. There are sites which are appropriate markets for risqué material, and others that are geared to family audiences. It is the writer’s responsibility to know where their work will be accepted according to its content. We know up-front what is acceptable when we become members of any particular site.
  3. Becoming recognized by our peers is important. Whether the feedback is positive or negative often depends on the article we have written. It is always nice to get the positive reviews because they encourage us to compete. But, it is often the negative reviews that inspire us to take more time, make revisions, and research the material we are presenting. Negative feedback should not be insulting to the writer; it should be thoughtful and instructional.
  4. There should be interaction between members/contributors of any writer’s site. This is the place we come to with the intent of sharing ideas and information. We may be competing against each other for the best of the best, but each of us has something to offer our fellow members. We should make an effort to comment on as many articles as possible.
  5. We usually create our articles around one or two themes with which we are familiar. Some people stick to articles on music, others write consistently about crafts. Although it is wise to write about the things in which we have expertise, we should try to venture into other areas occasionally. Opinion pieces can be interesting simply because they reflect who you are. Also, opinion pieces can be humorous, instructional, political or simply a rant about anything on which you have a strong opinion. Go for it!
