Heroism, A thing of Warriors

Heroism is having the traits of a hero or heroine. Being heroic is a hard thing to do. Two stories that show good examples of heroism is Beowolf written by “Unknown” and A Gathering of Heroes written by Gregory Alan-Williams In both of these stories there are characters that show some major characteristics heroism. In Beowolf he promise to protect the people no matter the situation or difficulty of the opponent. In A Gathering of Heroes a guy helps someone in need even though he knows the danger of the situation. In both of these stories there is a character that displays courage and the ability to inspire people but the magnitude of both is different.

Although both of these characters are great heroes and showed great courage some people many say these characters are nothing alike. They could say that Beowolf was far more courageous by fighting dragons and big monsters where as the guy in A Gathering of heroes only save one guy. But in all the both did something that took great courage and they both save a person or people.

As a result of there courageous deed they save people and really showed there ability to stand up to there fear. Both of these people had and impact on there area. Beowolf encouraged a young warrior to help him fight the dragon. And in A Gathering of Heroes he inspired some people to help others even in a time of danger. An example of when he even inspired me was when he “Heard how Grendel filled nights with horror. An quickly commanded a boat filled out, prodaim, that had go to that famous king.”(line 93-95, BEOWOLF) And a great example from A Gathering of Heroes was when the driver said “Yo man, you ant me to take him to the hospital?”(pg188 A GATHERING OF HEROES) even though it was unsafe and the man was black.These characters both inspired people in the story and out of the story.

Both these characters had the courage of a lion. They showed what they were mad of in a time of need. Even when the situation and odds were against them they fought to the end. Like when Beowolf “He leaped into the lake would not wait for anyone’s answer. He showed that he didn’t care if any one was gonna help him he was still going in with or without anybodies help. And in the Gathering of Heroes hes said”My conscience heard our cry, and carried me forward to preserve justice for him and to reclaim justice for myself” which said that he really cared about this one person and that he need to interject on the beating and the attacking of the African American man. This showed the real courage of a real person.

In both of these stories they showed they could see the morals of themselves and act on them for the better of the people. They stood in fears way and just pushed it away to get what needed to be done done. Both these characters showed there courage and inspired many people and should always be remembered.
