Do You Want to Be Paid More for Your Writing?
No one is going to pay you loads of money for your writing unless you earn it. If you want to earn more, you need to work hard to market yourself. It’s hard work but it can be done.
I have recently read comments on the Triond blog page where writers are complaining about how little they are paid and suggesting that we should all be paid more. One person wrote, (I quote) ‘I had over a thousand reads for one article and only got 78c when it should have been $1’.
Pardon me? Where did they get this idea from.
Another complainer said that Triond really should pay their starving writers more that ‘slave wages’ (or words to that effect) for their articles.
These people have missed the point. Triond does not buy you articles. You are allowed to publish your work on the various sites that Triond has and they share the revenue that your work attracts with you.
So, if you write obscure stuff like ‘How To Breed Tibetan Horses’ (for example), you won’t get many reads unless your article is picked up by a site that caters for Tibetan horse breeders.
However, if you write on how to make money, start a business, fix your car, or get freebies you will attract more readers and more advertising. Unusual articles often attract a lot of interest too.
My own top earning article has had 156,890 reads during this year alone. The earnings from this are $376.20 (which I only publish to illustrate my point.)

Compare this with this one which had 14,944 reads but only earned me $5.92. This is because it didn’t attract much advertising. This may have been the time of year, the subject matter, or even the website it was published on. Who knows?

Other subject matter that always seems to do well on Triond is stuff like the piece written by RJ Evans on the ‘Weee Man’. It’s quirky and different and obviously had a lot of readers although I cannot tell you how much it earned.

The point here is that all articles that do well on Triond do so because their writers work hard to promote them. They add them to social networking sites, search engines, sent email to friends and read and comment on other people’s work. (If you don’t comment no one knows you have been there.) Most members will reciprocate.

How to Drive Traffic To Your Article
Put some work into getting long term traffic if you really want to do well. Getting in the top 10 Triond list is only a temporary thing. If you want long term traffic you need to work at it.
Guaranteed long Term Traffic For Your Article
Triond has lots of ideas and suggestion from different writers. Look at all the ideas and try them out. If you expect to make money fast on Triond, forget it, you won’t unless you have your own personal miracle. To make money you have to spend time, lots of time, marketing and networking.
Build up your links, your readers and your network. As soon as you stop doing this your reader numbers will fall.
In short, if you want more money for your work, then do more marketing. There are no short cuts.

Louie, I have long ago realized that if I could spend more time on the networking sites reading others articles there, they would return the favor. I do not fault Triond for that, as our earnings are based on revenues from sponsors.
You have hit the nail on the head. I barely have enough time to support my friends here, let alone to read all over cyberspace…I just don’t have time to swing the hammer. I prefer to write than to promote. This is MY downfall and well may be some others. Triond is still here to publish our work, which I am eternally grateful for.

Good advise louie. If I had a nickle for every new writer who has PM`d me asking for advise on how to become a Hot User or how to get their stuff on the Hot Content list, I`d be rich. Hopefully they will read this article and realize that there is no magic want here at Triond.

Yup! What she said! Louie always makes sense and the truth is here that unless you are very lucky you have to work hard to market your work on the internet to get anywhere. The Triond writers are a fantastic opportunity but you cannot get many hits by sitting back and expecting every Triond writer to read your stuff: it won’t happen! That’s why Triond (and many writers on it) make sure there is lots of information about how to do it online. Shame people can’t be bothered to read it tho!

How true! Is it the word ‘work’ that is so offensive for some writers? Everybody here with many page views works hard for it all the time …
Maybe Triond could subtract a nickel from everybody asking for ‘how do I earn money quickly’ from another writer and and add it to his/her account

Totally agree with all the points you have made here Louie. Sometimes I feel like people are on this site for 1 reason and that is the money. I think there are some here however because they actually enjoy writing. Its true you may not be a millionaire from writing on this site alone, but is that what the real writers are here for? The money should be a bonus for the feeling you get from seeing your work published.

Excellent advice, Louie. I too have had many new members asking how to make big money and want to know how long it takes. I don’t recall asking these questions when I started out. I don’t think they have it now but, remember the Triond School? That was the first place I went for information. The rest I gleaned from members articles such as your own. I continue to take advantage of every such article that is submitted. They all help/

Louie, You have very usefull suggestions for all Triond writers. It takes a lot of time and work and if you are not willing to put in the time you won’t reap the return. I don’t believe anybody will get rich on Triond anyway, but it is a way to get your work out there. Good luck to everyone. Ruby

I do get fed up with the number of messages in my mail box each day saying ‘how do I make money?’ ‘Read my articles’ and even ‘I am going to read your articles, please read mine’, ‘put me on your friend list’ (um! why? I don’t know who you are..read my work, comment, contribute, and then I’ll add you.) Triond will turn into Facebook if we aren’t careful. We will all have 200 friends and not know any of them. LOL
Having said all that, though, if someone genuinely asks a question and I can help, I will. I’m quite willing to share what i’ve learned on this site.

Very nice, informative article. I enjoy writing for Triond. I divide my time between Triond and Associated Content. I do not make a lot of money from either site. However, I get increases in readership weekly. My most read piece for Triond has had 1,400 reads. I have fun and I get a lot of compliments. I use social networks such as Facebook, Yahoo, and others. I’m probably not doing the best job in this area but I keep trying.

I’m so glad you wrote this Louie. I too get tonnes of messages asking me to read peoples’ work. It’s as if they expect you to spend time reading and commenting on their stuff, without ever taking an interest in yours.
This would never happen, we all have to work hard in promoting ourselves and each other, but it’s all reciprocal.
