It’s about the Outbrain Widget at Triond.
Guess from where does most of the traffic come for my articles at Triond? The fast growing cyan-blue colored bar showing the Top Referring Site points to Outbrain. What’s outbrain? I was curious and went to their site, downloaded their widget (a small piece of code) and inserted it into my blog Fit For Life at Blogger.

What it did was to let viewers rate my blog and recommended a few blogs on related topics posted by those who used a similar widget on their web sites. The links that outbrain had added were of high quality. In a way, it did what I should have done. Providing outgoing links to related topics increases the page rank. I did not have to write the code for collecting user ratings. Since most people shy away from writing comments, this let me get their feedback. The widget was free and easy to install.
More importantly, it increased the traffic as well. Many came from different sites following the widget links like the Magi following the star.
Back at Triond, many of my old articles have been getting more page hits after the outbrain installation. Earlier, the articles would get a few hits for the first few days after publication and then fade away into oblivion. Now they are rediscovered.
You can see the result here for my article on Vitamin D at Triond.

My outbrain is at least four times the next source, which currently is Triond. May be the Outbrain traffic includes that from Triond as well.
What is your experience?

I’ve noticed that it has brought some more traffic. It’s also a different kind of traffic, people who are actually interested in the topic and thus more likely to comment.
I’ve noticed this more on my blog http://originalwavelength.blogspot.com than on Triond articles. Only 10% on my readers come from Triond.

I’ll give it a shot.

Interesting! I wasn’t aware of Outbrain but I’ll definitely look into it and most likely give it a try. More traffic is always a nice thing.

Uma, most of my traffic comes from my personal blog http://www.pittsburghflashfictiongazette.com and the next most hits come from Triond. Outbrain is next.
Right now I’m working on being more involved with the Triond community and my personal blog, both of which I can influence the hits. This is on top of coming up constantly with new content for Triond. I find that I don’t have time to do much more.

You don’t have to add the widget at Triond – Triond has already done that for us. You may want to add for any of your personal blogs.

Interesting. But I also noted that the counting is not correct and the more you write the least income you get! There is a problem…
Thanks for sharing your views.

Hi,
Most of you have assumed you have to install some kind of widget at Triond. You can’t and you don’t need to. Triond has done it, and I am commending it in this article. That’s all. However, if you have hosted your own blog, you may want to try Outbrain.
